Went skiing two Sundays ago up at Kirkwood. They have had a record season for snow > 700 inches. Had my 1ds3 and ZE 21 and a couple other zeiss lenses in my bag.
Nothing beats the thrill skiing fast down the mtn with your expensive camera gear.
The first shot is from the top (~10,000 ft). The flag is usually there all the time but it really described the conditions that day as the snow had hardened back up from the unusually warm 60 degree days earlier in the week and was now a sheer uncarvable sheet of snow/ice.
That is why nobody is on the lift in the shot. I think I took a year's worth of life off my knees coming down that top part.Because of the snow conditions I couldn't access some of the parts of the mtn to shoot the shots I wanted.Still it was a great day.

Thank you for your comments you guys.

Philber - Really lovely flower shots. Bitingly sharp they are. Amazing color and strong rendition of volume. Look at that relief at the bottom of planter !! I also appreciate that in the first shot, foreground is in bokeh, then the second shot it is the opposite. Oh I forgot. I'd love to see you do Versaille Pano. That would be a treat

Fracas - I agree with Philber. There is nothing wrong with the BW version, but that color shot is much more fun. It has the look of contemporary film, like Tom Tykwer ( The International, to be more specific ) I just love that look.

Carsten - Is it possible, that it is not the sharpness that you are missing, but something else ?? Here is the resaon why I ask. That shot of tree is quite sharp to my eyes. Love the reflection and growth at water level. Very lovely color, and it still have quite nice bokeh in the background. What not to like eh?? Anyhow, looking at your tree photo, reminded me of Samli's series of 50mm comparison shots ( probably 150 pages ago. I was not participating this thread yet, just reading. ) What struck me in that comparison was, how different the rendition of lenses were. ( My preference was actually 50 planar, surprise, suprise , but that is irrelevant ) I am not saying you should get 50 planar though

Bob - Great shots. Beautiful flowers. Tree shot (#3) is very pretty.

Wayne - Great shots of snow with 21. Juxtaposition of skull against beautiful snow mountain is unique and very strong.

Hugo - Wow, beautiful shots. Love the first one the most, but they are all beautiful.

Sorry, I had to separate these two. They don't go together too well.

Akul, thanks for your kind words! Your first shot is just fine, but, for some reason, the second one is ht eone that really caught my attention, and actually didn't yet let go of it...:-) Amazing!

Hugo, more delightful shots! Thanks!

Wayne, what an experience! My preference goes to N2, then N1. You handled the contrast and DR brilliantly!

Lovely set from Brugge, Bob! I wonder what the picture of the sitting man would look like with the right side and shadow cropped out...

Thanks for that. I'm now just a little more than halfway through my six month stay. So, during that time, I'm trying to see as much of Europe as I can . . . on the weekends! I figure I can sleep in July!

I thought of that but I liked the length of the wall and the emptiness. I thought it would give more of a mystery as to what this man is doing dressed in a suit sitting on a chair against a sunlit wall? He's actually drawing the storefront facing him but I still found his attire to be a bit odd . . .

Nonetheless, here's a square crop version the removes the shadow.

Thanks Philber, Bob. As I rarely shoot portrait, I decided to do a portrait, of an abandoned machinery

rexx - loverly flower shots

Bob - Beautiful set from Brugge. The first shot, chair in front seems the only thing in color. Great effect.
The wall and a man. I like both the original and the squarer crop, but I may like the non-crop slightly more as it gives me more context. Great eyes for the candle shot. Very nice bokeh in the background with 21.

Thanks akul. Yes, all but the chair have been desaturated in LR using the paintbrush tool.
