denoir: The #2 is really nice! Love the depth in it.
Tri Tran: Very serene photos with fine details.
mshi: The 100/2 makes for a very sharp portrait lens!
Guys, let me be frank here. I am a pretty lousy lens tester in the first place. Second, I will only have the lens available for a few minutes, 30 min tops. That is all the service the French Zeiss distributor will provide. Then, my demands on a lens, especially a lens that heavy and expensive are quite specific: colours, contrast, drawing style, 3D. This is all I need to get the "Wow!" shots that I am after, and I prioritize getting some of these over some technical shortcomings, such as corner sharpness wide open, flare, etc... which can ruin some shots. Which is why I prefer the 50 and 85mm f:1.4 to the MP twins. So I am not the typical Zeiss lover on this forum, and you should take my findings, assuming that the meeting actually happens as promised, with this in mind.
Actually, my notice was not about reporting my experience on Tuesday as much as letting all of you know that this lens is now probably avaiable pretty much anywhere, or close...
Ruben, Markovic, Philber, alkanphel, Denoir, Matynas, Thank you for your comments
Philber - Have fun with 35 1.4 We all know your shooting style, and your preference of lens, and we all respect your opinion very much. No need for detailed analytical report, but would be great to let us know your initial 'reaction' to the lens. Was it just way too big and heavy that you did not care about image quality, or Hm, the image looks lovely, may be it is worth the weight and wait...
Oh boy, this thread is like moving in light speed with so many wonderful images. It is a sigh of joy I get.
Ruben -Great sets. From the first set, #1 is magnificient, but the yellow barrier shot really gets my attention. From the second set, #1 is beautiful. Also the last one, the sign caught my eye.
Malkovic - Beautiful sets. From the first set, the first one (B/W) is splendid. It reminds me of Tarkovski's Stalker From the second set the first one is great. I don't know what they are, but the way how you lined up the raw of huts made them look like a contemporary art piece. I also love the fence shot
beud - Great capture, wonderful eyes. I can almost smell the soaps
Uzay - That is a beautiful shot. Great in B/W. right on
Corposant - Ok I try not to use the word 'love'. Your composition on the shot speaks to me strongly with the focused flower on the right bottom and two diagonals, one from oof building on the right and the other from white low wall with only a portion of it in focus. This makes a loose but effective framing device for the focused subject. What really enhances this picture though, is the clarity of focused flower with bright colored background in lovely bokeh... I just love the way how zeiss renders color in bokeh.....oops I tried.
teh-rebel - Long time no see. Great story telling. Love the last shot .
Almas - wonderful capture of beautiful eyes
Denoir - Great set. B/W on this set is really effective. Beautiful. #1 and #2 are really stunning. Texture of concrete is really beautifully captured.
Tri Tran - Wonderful shots with 21. Beautiful color. My favorites are #2 and #5
mshi - From the first one, I like the #3 with a little mystery. Strong contrast and composition. And, beautiful abstract image with 50 planar.
alkanphel - Your closeup shots are amazing. So well composed. The third one is really beautiful.
danklar - Welcome to the thread. Nice portrait. Great, I'd love to see more shots from 85 !
Ajay C - Beautiful sky on the first shot.
Bob - Beautiful set. First two shots are amazing. Great PP. And of course, love the bicycle. Vignetting on the shot is effective
Dalmas - What a wonderful shot. People strolling on the frozen river. Wonderful detail. Love the boat stuck in the ice.
Actually, the meeting has been moved up to tomorrow. I will be duplicating shots between a ZE 35 f:1.4 and a 35 f:2.0. But time will be severely limited because both lenses are due for delivery later in the afternoon, so my choices (venue, weather etc...) will be exactly zero. Apologies in advance.
>>>Gary Clennan, good work and I particularly like the 3rd one.
>>>teh_rebel, all wonderful images indeed but I find your logo is kind of distracting.
>>>kevphoto, great shot but I find the bokeh out my 1,4/50 can be little busy if shot at close to min focus distance from time to time.
>>>philber, I can't wait your thoughts on the new 1,4/35. What I am really interested to know is how well the lens can render bokeh and CA control for high contrast scenes.
I really enjoy some of your portrait work, Michael. Edgy and interesting is often a nice contrast to the technical (but also excellent) portraiture on display on the forums here.
