I am looking for a prime to shoot indoor with my 7D. I already own the 50 1.4 and really like to shoot wide open (till 1.8) for the out of focus effect as well as the capability to shoot indoor without a flash.
I was wondering which one to pick. Note I am on budget and do not consider the 35L for the moment.

I have not used the others, but I've been very happy with the performance of my Canon 28 1.8 (on a 40D). It does have pretty bad CA though, but I've gotten pretty good at taking care of it in PP.

Based on your experience, how does it perform @ 1.8? I think the Sigma (if properly focused) is pretty darn sharp @ 1.4 and even better @ 1.8. I'm just wondering if you feel the need to stop the Canon 28 down a bit to get good results.

35 f2. No focus issues, sharp wide open on my 1DMkII and inexpensive.

I thought the 35f2 focus can not be adjust, you need to switch something: is that correct?
I have bad experience with the Sigma 50 1.4 AF...Is ti the same issue with the Sigma 30mm?

I personally shoot with the 28 wide open 90% of the time, and love the photos.

I don't do crop-only lenses, but have used the 28 and 35 extensively... other than cosmetics, the 35 is much nicer optically IMO. I thought the 28 was kind of soft wide open, also suffers flare. Aside from kind of harsh bokeh, the 35 is optically great IMO. I didn't like the bokeh from the 28 much either.

Sigma, the Canon 35 is pretty sub-par, IMO. I have seen a few 28mm shots out there on the interwebs that look decent.

again, Canon, if you are listening, please update your EF primes. USM and modern coatings would be all it takes.

I was not impressed by my Sigma 28 f/1.8 at all.

I used to use the 28 1.8... but still don't find it wide enough. It's more a 50, if you like that sort of thing.

Purchased a 24 1.4L recently, much better~
