p.1 #1 · 1D MK III - Has Canon got it right?

I am curious to see what the consensus is with the MK III now that most owners who were dissatisfied have had the sub-mirror fix, software upgrades and other adjustments.

Has Canon finally got it right?

I voted that they "got it right".

However, it should be noted that I rarely shoot the kinds of scenes where RobG was having issues with focus tracking.

I voted that they finally got it right, but there is a caveat. I am happy with the camera now, but still not happy with how Canon dealt with the issue over the past few years. If they really want to make it right, they need to offer a substantail "customer loyalty" discount for registered 1D-III owners that buy a new 1D-IV in the first six months that the new camera is available.

Mine has performed beautifully. No complaints from me.

A trade in would be a great way for Canon to get respect back. But do Canon ever do anything for its customers?

One-Shot - no problem
Servo AF - not so great

I find it incredibly frustrating to see how nice the pictures can be only to be disappointed with slightly OOF shots in Servo. Some are spot on, most are just a tad off either direction. A few have a weird haze or double image on the contours (this is in strong light). It makes post processing a pain. The Mark II:s may be inferior in many ways but at least the focusing is consistant.

I'd love a trade-in program but that will never happen.

I love the 1D3, but I understand it is not a point and shoot miracle machine...

Canon's faux pas is AF Servo, One Shot or otherwise..the tracking just isnt so great.
I must and will admit most problems are me but when I check the "AF Point" in DPP or ZB, it is right on yet image is still blurry, smooth.
And yes the other factors that can cause this are within agreeable limits/ranges.
I hope and pray the IV's AF is as good as it it "tooted"!!!

I didn't find any option to pick for my mk III. It would be "Great body with no issues since day one" About 15k shots made & nothing wrong with it.
