p.1 #1 · Art-Nude Photography Sales

I have never done much in the way of nudes/implied but have been asked so many times while doing other portraits that I need to learn more about it. Some of my clients are interested in selling images. ( or me sell of them) Nothing explicit.
Of course all would be legal age with release and ID info on file.

How do you control who is looking at the site. Sure you can put 18+ but you can't control who follows the link. Is that a non issue?
How about sales. Is a credit card enough to prove someone is legal age to purchase?
Open to any information you may have.
Thanks

You can have a password protected gallery. This doesn't insure that someone is of a certain age but it does put a bit of a control on the the pictures.

setup entry ticket price to use the CC as verification. It is not 100% but nothing is and is beyond reasonable effort.

i dont think it is huge deal. It is positive. Filters out people who are serious which will be always in minority. It serves the purpose and solves many issues on sellers side for very little inconvenience on customer side. He can even give free tickets to those who will personally contact them, that is what we do. No 12 year old kid will write from name.surname@designerfirmexample.com and use proper letter form.

Not sure what you mean by tickets. Do you have a sample link showing someone using it?

Galleries are good but expensive. I know a few gallery owners but I would have to invest in large prints, most likely frames and then give 40%- 50%. Need to test the water first before I spend too much money.

works for us.

Just let them pay anything. But technically You dont need to do more then say: "dont enter under 18(21)". It just about what you want to solve with that issue. Our biggest issue was that we was founding our photos cropped from logos all over asian and russian websites claiming it was their work. Or those web photo "competitions". Remember most customers are returning if their experience is good. Actually almost or maybe even over 3/4 of all our sales are returning customers. We refund the ticket price in first print sale.

40-50% share for gallery doesnt matter as long as you get what you want for your print. They can sell it for whatever they want. Sure it robs customer but most of those who shop there are spontaneous buyers and are aware that they would get it cheaper by artist. They just dont care in our experience.

I would not worry to much about doing anything other than having a disclaimer about nudity and the need to be 18+. There is so much porn on the internet that I doubt a 14 year old would be interested in checking out artistic nudes.

selling fine art on the Internet and making a profit is for people who have already made themselves into a brand. people buy fine art as a potential investment as much as the aesthetics. that means that they want to see and touch and know the physical quality as well as the aesthetic. if you are on the Internet, you are a commodity and will be treated as such until you have a brand associated with you. if anybody wants to buy my work, they have to go to a gallery that shows it.
