p.1 #1 · Canyonlands Winter Storm - Part II

Thanks again to all for the comments on my original post of the storm I saw last weekend as it blew through Canyonlands NP. [Original post is here]http://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/836626[/url] It was certainly an interesting sight seeing a thunderstorm with snow.

After shooting the shot normally, I decided to use a 10-stop ND filter. I thought it would give the storm a different look showing its movement. I didn't want it going too long, so this was shot at f/10 and ISO500 for about 2 minutes. I thought I'd post it as well to show the different look. I also noticed the filter really warmed up the shot as evidenced here.

Any comments and critiques are welcome.

-Todd

Cool indeed. Like the transition from red to purple. Maybe a good b/w candidate too. Think the sky was more dramatic in the first though

What a cool idea! I have a 10 stop and it does make you think creatively.

Really different look from the 1st one, Todd! Like the storm has moved toward you and really unloaded. Very cool. I like the warmer tones here, and the light in the canyon is wonderful.

Aaron - Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, the colors were intense in the original file. I think a lot was due to the ND as they had a lot more orange and red in them. I'll take a look at B&W, but I think both look better in color. Maybe this as a better candidate though. We will see.

Glad you liked it Sharon. I'm not sure if it makes you think creatively, or allows you to think creatively. I never would have been able to capture this without the filter, so it was fun experimenting after I captured the original shot. Pretty cool tool though!
