For all of us shooters who live in places that get a real winter, the off-season is approaching fast (if not already upon us). Besides a much needed break, I've been looking forward to making some changes to our kit based on observations and realizations during the 40+ shoots we did this year.
What, if any, changes are you looking to make to your kit during the offseason?
Size, weight, and range advantages for the 24-105/4. The only time I ever use the 24-70 is when I'm stopping down (group shots at weddings, or for leisure purposes). I almost never use it at F2.8.

To you guys swapping the 24-70's for the 24-105s...what are you doinggg
My copy of the 24-70 (that I used to have) was so sharp @ 2.8. Can you
say the same about the 24-105? ... no...because its an f4 lens. Fail.
Jeremy- you're trash can looks like my trash can. Overflowing.

Did you even read what I said? I don't use mine at F2.8 If I need aperture I grab my 50/1.2.

Might go from 2x5D2 to 1D4 + 5D2. Still not sure if I can swallow the crop sensor. Wish 1Ds3 had better noise control or I'd be all over it.
As far as I can tell 1ds3 and 5d2 raws are virtually identical. The whole difference seems to sit in jpegs, which I don't use at all. 1ds3 is on my to buy list. Just hoping for used ones to drop even lower with early 1D4 adopters selling.

This is what I've heard.
Yes, I'd be dropping down to a 5D1 to offset the cost of the 1Ds3. This move would put me back in two FF sensors, which would make me happy.
Question: Do the 1dsIII's have the same low-ISO noise/banding issue? I'm not asking so we can fight over it, just asking if it's been discussed, much like the 5D2? I'd love a nicer LCD version of my sMkII's.
35L is pretty much it. Couple of small things...extra light stand, smaller PLM, CC, etc.
Would like to finish my portable power setup.
Also on the to-do list: Clean my desk. If I could get it at least to where Jeremy is at I'd be happy. I haven't seen the actual surface of mine in months.

"Braniac" from the Canon forum has done testing of this and has concluded the 1DsIII has better low ISO IQ than the 5DII. This includes lack of banding.

Not in my book. I had a 1Ds3 I shot with last year for a couple of weddings before going to 5D2. I reviewed some RAW files briefly last week, but, the noise at 1600 between 1Ds3 and 5D2 is noticeably better. Granted the 1Ds3 was no slouch though. Still debating a 1Ds3 vs 1D4.
