None of the shots are very flattering...just my opinion.

What makes them a "very Italian family"?

WOW!!! Brutally honest and yet very harsh!!! Sometimes it works, sometimes it don't. In this case, I don't think it did!!

Anyway...

Well composed images...just my opinion.

Keep shooting!!

Thanks Vinnie,

I intend to

I don't understand the harsh comments, these shots are simply outstanding! Great work!

Thanks Barkey,

Well I don't know about "outstanding" but I liked them enough to want to share them...and that's really all it's about

Thank you!

I think they look good too. The first is very nice, with a great mix of color and light. The little girl on the bicycle is too cute. And the little boy looks like he's having a great time.

Hi Bkmarrs!

I really like that little bicycle

We all had a great time and that's what's important to me... the resulting order was nice too

Thank you!

A fine series of shots here. I especially like the composition in #1, which is great for a holiday season card. Thre are a few wandering eyes, but I expect few will notice that.

Wonderful expression on the boy's shot. The first girl looks a little "alone" in that scene, although she is well posed and lit.

Well done.

Thank you Jim...

The kids are very active

I did the best I could with them but in the end everyone was happy with the results.

Thanks for your contribution!

Sir, these are out standing shots.. You did a great job. We do have some as_holes on this site.. and that's to bad because this was a very good board many years ago..

Thanks for sharing...

Hi BJ!

Well thanks!
People are individuals... and the internet has lended personalities to express themselves more "robustly" than if they were "face to face" with you

Nothing wrong with contructive criticism and I appreciate that.

But... like you... I don't much care for anonymous bashing because they had a "bad day"

A little "role reversal" wouldn't hurt before one posts for sure

Thanks for your observations!

Their names? The fact that they are Italian?

Thanks for your 2 cents.. I think

obviously you want "atta boys" so I won't bother commenting on the images. Good luck and I wish you continuing success.

Hi Evil!

Good thing you've got it "all figured out"

Making my living at this profession for 35 years (solely) still hasn't allowed me to feel as confident as you obviously are

Thanks for your "luck" wish... and I will strive to improve!

Thanks!

I don't think someone merely expressing their opinion makes them an asshole. His opinion could have included specific criticism as to why he thought they were not flattering thereby giving the photographer and readers something to think about. Heaping praise on a posters photos may feel good to the poster but do they or anyone else learn anything from it? I think some well thought out criticism, both negative and positive, of someones photography goes much further to educate than merely saying "great job".

Edit..I really like the first image. well composed with everyone looking comfortable and relaxed. Only minor nit would be the lighting. I think either or both a light behind the father shining on the wall to get some seperation between him and the wall (as happens with the yellow glow behind the daughter) and a hair light would have improved the photograph from a technical point of view.

Agreed Peter... a little more "hairlight" could help these images.
As far as BG lighting goes... I simply need to dila up the power on the "Scene Machine" to make it brighter.

Thanks!

Hi Albert,

It looks like a family that has lots of love in it.

I like the names too.

The most striking to me is the little boy's portrait because of that special moment of expression. He looks genuinely happy and that gives me the impression of a happy kid and happy family too.

Lucky father and mother there...such a nice looking family.

A good photographer can show that, you have. In fact one of the things I think when I see your photos is how often the people in them seem to be having a good time and enjoying their moment with you. I think that is a good thing to see.

Happy Holidays! (first one is Turkey Day or Thanksgiving here in the USA).

Hiya Steady!

Yes.. they are a very close family... good to see in this day and age.

Thanks for your cudos and a very happy t-DAY to you as well!

Be well sir!

I guess I'll rephrase my comment: "The shots are amateurish....at best".
I'll start with the lighting...too harsh.
If I were the client...I'd request a refund...or a serious discount.

Keep shooting....you'll eventually improve.

Thank you!

I really think the only way they would appeal to you is if you shot them yourself

I will try to continue to improve... maybe the next 35 years of my professional career will show some positive results. Then I'll be 87... the magic number possibly?

If you want a pat on the back your in the wrong forum. This forum tells it like it is. It may seem harsh and brutal at time, but at least you'll learn something here. You don't learn anything from a pat on the back or "atta boy" comments.

Nothing about this image made me think Italian. (You titled it, not us)

Thanks for the clarification about this forum!
I think you DO learn something from "atta boys" and "pats on the back"

Constructive crticism is appreciated too! I don't appreciate arrogant "bashing" though, brought on by problems in one's personal life.
I have personal problems too... but I choose not to relieve them by being snide to an "anonymous" internet posters Does that really make you feel better??

I've always felt you should post as if you were standing face to face in a normal conversation with an individual.

So I guess you and I have different opinons... huh?

No... what will help me to improve are the families I have booked for the next 3 weeks.

practice practice you know

I'm quite impressed with all the shots -- technically excellent IMO. On my monitor (calibrated CRT) the colors are very natural but rich and the lighting in the first family photo is unusually gentle and unaffected. It looks great to me. The individual portraits may not be the most expressive, but they are certainly attractive photos of the children. Well done!
