Another good set Bart, my favorite is number 3. I agree with Binh, the black BG is fantastic.

Bart

Great set here and cool to see other members of your group some beautiful takeaways here. I have to agree #3 is gorgeous with that black BG. but I'm seeing some strange stuff in the lower left hand side of the black background don't know if it is Jpg compression or something else. All are very nicely seen Bart

The 2nd wave at sunset shot is a classic. I'm sure glad I was able to see this sight after failing because of conditions on 5 prior visits. Your composition and exposure are as good as they get. I like the tight shot of the ridges in 2 as well.

Outstanding abstract with #2. That one takes it for me.

Wow.
Number 3 is sweet but the second shot is unique and my favorite.

Awesome. I really like the set you posted. The pastels in number two really stand as out compared to the usual wave images you see. Thanks for sharing.

I love the dark contrast in the background of the third image but #2 is the one that steals my heart here.

Very nice set all around Bart.

I am stunned by the 1st. Deb provides a scale for the ridges for which I was totally unprepared!! I love the soft light and subtle colors in the first 2. Wonderful stuff, Bart!

I'm really digging your second shot in particular. Was that shot with a long lens?

Love the pastels here Bart. Of course, the last one is the quintessential Coyote Buttes shot. Well done.

Amazing, Bart. The texture and detail that you acheived is wonderful. That first one really serves as a warning to have good gripping shoes, and to hold on to your gear.

Love the jagged look you captured in #2, and the exposure in the last is spectacular.

Cheers,
Ed

Hi Bart ,

A real feast of detail , colour , shape and texture --- especially in your second study . Marvellous colour combinations throughout , and I marvel at the apparent defiance of gravity in your first picture . No first choice , they're all favourites !

I'm with Adrian on this one as there is no first choice for me as well. Love the scale Sierasong adds to the
first and the 2nd if one of the best abstracts I have seen from this iconic location. The 3rd shot is just so
sweet in how the black bg emphasizes the structure.

Thanks to each of you. I was very fortunate here in many ways. We had a good long day, starting about 4 am with the travel, and stayed until the last light (just behind a pack of 6 coyotes heading over the sand hill before us). We also had good light in the morning and evening; and even though the forecast was for all sun, no clouds; a few clouds slipped in during the day and provided some diffuse light in the mid day shooting.

Of course, I was also in great company; eager to search for new ideas here, and we all took the time to do that; and we hand Robyn scouting the other high and low areas for more possibilities.

So really, it was just pure fun all the way.

For the last shot, my plan was to catch the darkest background I could. I knew from a previous post I think by Jim Fox, that this effect could be obtained, but I wanted to make it as natural as possible. So we waited for the light on the back hills to go into shadow. It still left some areas partially lit, and I did take those down in CS4, so I think Ray, that's where the funky stuff got in; maybe aggravated by the jpeg reduction.

Ben: I did shoot the first two with my 70-200 on the 1Ds3. The last one was with the 5D2.

Thanks again,

Bart
