p.1 #1 · US air base?!?!?

Hey guys. I have a wedding coming up this Saturday. And the prewedding shots are going to take place at a US Air Base!!!! I'm nervous and excited since I have never even been close to a millitary plane.

I'm here for some advices. Does anyone have any pictures of bride and groom with a PLANE? and any creative ideas are greatly appreciated!!

Are either one a pilot? What branch?

The groom is in the US Air Force. The base is somewhere near Trenton, NJ

Gotcha, if he's a pilot make sure he's in his plane. Tell him to bring both jumpsuit and other clothes, if the fiance is good looking I think you won't have any problem.

We did an engagement session on an air force base a while back. They pointed guns at us the whole time. Otherwise it was great. Ended up taking some illegal photos of the cockpit of a plane too. Good times.

Oh my gosh seriously?? That sounds just a little intense. Would you mind showing me some pictures?

I took an entire bridal shoot with old bomber planes at an air museum...I'll post soon. Gotta take my dog to the vet. Sorry about the non-vital info.

I shot a wedding at Robins AFB this past weekend. I haven't gotten around to processing the pictures though.

I don't post photos on forums out of sheer embarrassment. Suffice it to say that if you've got a guy, and a girl, and some love, and a plane you'll know what to do. Get in the plane, under it, use it as a background, etc - you've got the skills.

sounds like Dover AFB.
mainly big cargo planes - if it is in fact Dover.

If they let you get out on the flightline - straight on shot w/ couple in front of plane.
Have a little seperation between couple and plane.

If windy .... plan to use to your advantage.
Can do some cool wide angle stuff.
maybe some shots around hanger if they are interesting.

Later,
_Mark

Spencer Boerup did a airplane e-sesh earlier this year, but that was a commercial jet. You're going to have to dig to find it, but that was my favorite set from him.

These are some wonderful ideas! Thanks so much!
I really hope they will let us get on the flightline.
I was hoping for some small fight jets

It has been a while since i flew out of Dover. I don't remember any fighters ... maybe a couple of alert birds - maybe F-16's. but it would be tough to get around unless your client is a pilot/maintenance in the corresponding unit.

Also ... if going to the base around sunset and get on flight line - a little off camera flash work w/ airport lights can really rock.

Ziffl3 - unfortunately we will be shooting in the morning around 9 =\ So i guess no sunset pictures. I think that idea would rock though. Thanks again.

ksmahgrts - Man, only if I could find that post :P

Grab your widest, sharpest lens, and a medium tele IMO.

Back light the plane with the couple kissing near it for one idea (assuming you do off cam lighting of course). Another would be to have them on the wing with her kissing him in the cockpit. If its getting dark as you shoot, you could put your off cam light in the cockpit with them and have it make them well lit with everything else a couple stops under.

Tele shots from the rear of the plane and front with the couple half way between.

Just some thoughts.

DavidWEGS - thanks for the wonderful idea. Do you think they would let me (a non-military personnel fool) fool around in the cockpit?

I'll see if I can dig up some of my wedding pictures. They aren't remarkable but may give you some ideas. My husband and I were married ON a King Air (we are both pilots). We had our reception in a large hangar complete with WWII-era swing/big band orchestra. While the guests were arriving, we landed at another airport (our downtown airport, with the city skyline in the background) and did photos with the plane, then went back to the airport that was hosting our reception. It worked out fantastically well and was so cool. I just wish I'd done more with the photos.

I'll post 'em up tomorrow if I can. I think they are at my office. I'm shooting a wedding next June that has the reception at an aircraft museum at the same airport as the photos I mentioned above - skyline and all. I'm very excited for that one.
