I just bought a lens from ebay and seller told me I just need to go online to register the lens so I can get the warranty. I did see the blank warranty form in the package. Do I still need a bill of sale for warranty repair? Thanks.

The Nikon USA warranty only applies to the original purchaser. If you bought it from a dealer, you should be fine, otherwise, there is no warranty.
While I know this is what Nikon says, I had no issues for warranty work required with a purchase receipt with another persons name. The lady at the counter didnt even look at the name, only the serial number and purchase date. I may have been lucky but I have heard of other reports with similar experience.
Dont want to hijack the thread.
But I am looking at a UK D3 with some outstanding warranty.
I gather Nikon UK will not honour remainder of the warranty to a new owner.
Whats the best way to cover yourself in this case.
Canon is the same. They only need a receipt for warranty repair. It doesn't matter the whose name on it.

It makes no difference who the owner was. As long as you have the receipt. That goes for all over the world. Hope that clears things up.
This is one of the big advantages of buying online. Your receipt is printable at any time. That's why I buy all my higher end glass and stuff online so that I don't have to worry about keeping receipts, I just print it out when I need it.
