I have the opportunity to buy a used Epson 9600 printer. Does anyone have experience with this specific model? Pros and Cons? Do you have a general idea of cost printing in-house vs. a lab with this printer?
the 9600 is now quite old...there's been some posts on another board I post on about people having issues finding drivers for the newest version of their OS(snow leopard for example) causing a pain in the ass work around to be devised...
My personal thoughts are that if this is already happening it's a bad time to be buying the 9600...
Thanks for the reply, here's some more info. I can get the printer for $700 + $510 for 5 new 220mL tanks and a maintenance tank. Here's the info I got today, should I bite the bullet and go for it?
Thanks again for your input!
Pat
Epson Ultrachrome 220ml Ink Tank Cyan(T5442)
Epson Ultrachrome 220ml Ink Tank Magenta(T5443)
Epson Ultrachrome 220ml Ink Tank Yellow(T5444)
Epson Ultrachrome 220ml Ink Tank Photo Black(T5441)
Epson Ultrachrome 220ml Ink Tank Light Black(T5447)
Printer already has full set of inks in it that range from about 20% up to 80%.
Also we have an extra maintenance tank (C890191) available at $50.
Printer is approx. 6 years old.
Maintenance was done regularly to keep print quality up. I can't say how many exactly but we have likely gone through over 25 rolls (glossy+luster+sheets) or more.
Print head, wiper, & pad assembly have been replaced about two years.
I think we were looking at the same printer...calgary?
I considered the option and honestly just ended up shelling out the cash on a 9900...if you want to come and look at the results off a 9900 and are indeed in calgary drop me a line...
ah ok...there was a 9600 here in calgary for sale for really cheap a while ago...it was getting to be quite worn out though.
either way...like I said, the drivers issue is going to become more and more of a problem gradually...epson won't be making any more drivers for it, so you will pretty much be SOL as OS systems get updated...
I have an Epson 7600 and it cost about $2.00 an 8x10 to print. I really like the 7600 very much, but have heard the newer models are better. I can batch process 4-4x5's on an 8x10 to accomodate the Moms who are scrapbooking. Make sure you buy a colorimeter to calibrate both monitor and paper. You will have to calibrate each every type of paper you plan to use for printing.

My math puts me closer to $1.00 per 8X10 on the 9900.
Also most of the color profiles put out by manufacturers for the 9900 are VERY good.
