Hi all,

Congrats on your first Macro post!

If you want my comment:

I think this photo needs a little more DOF (small aperature).

thanks, yes indeed, I invite your feedback. thanks!

I think at the time I was shooting off tripod as I was sure she'd run away, all of my +f7.1 shots were blurred... I love the eyes, I guess that what I was trying to focus on. It was taken on a 5D MkII with the 100mm (old one)...

What was the light source, and how far away was it from the spider? Not a bad first attempt, but to me it looks like you got robbed by motion blur.

Good points from Dalantech. You may also be robbed by some tension in the process. Fear of spiders. These spiders are probably the most friendly on the planet, no kidding.

With these fellows propensity for movement it's probably best not to use a tripod. Hand hold, move with it, focus and shoot when stationary.

Crop all the that empty space, others may differ.

An excellent first try, mate.

Spiders are beautiful, and very individual, in my opinion even more so than birds.

If you would like to develop your spider photography, I recommend bagging one when he's in his web, so that you can flash him, get the background all nice and blacked out:
