p.1 #1 · Rockwell M9 samples - impressions from prints
I know Rockwell cops a fair bit of criticism on this site, but he has posted quite a few M9 samples with downloadable DNG files. I downloaded 3 and did some test prints. Processing was ACR-CS3, and the images were printed on an Epson 3800.
My impressions are that the camera is impressive. Certainly as good as my D700, which is not bad for a camera the size of the M9.
I would be interested in hearing the opinions of others, particularly those with the D3X or 1DsIII.
In particular I am interested in peoples views after processing and printing the images. Comments based on pixel peeping 100% images on screen are of less interest to me.
For those with Capture One I would be interested in hearing if this performs better than CS3 for raw conversion of the M9 files.

I must say that printing d700 and m9 pictures side by side, the M9 shots are far better from iso 100 to about 800, from there they are pretty much equal to right before 2500, from there on, the d700 seems to pull ahead.

I would definitely use either the beta of LR 3 or the latest version of C1 to process M9 DNGs. As James pointed out, they both have profiles for the M9, where as CS3 (and even CS4) do not. It makes a difference; I prefer LR 3 and that's probably because its the officially supported software and Adobe tends to not crank the sharpening the C1 seems to. The M9 DNGs are already so sharp, they don't need a lot of help.

To the best of my knowledge, LR3 doesn't have an M9 profile. I think LR is tied to PS ACR. C1 does have the profile.

Reading the article I almost barfed after the first two paragraphs:
"Now that there is a serious digital camera with a Made-in-USA image sensor, I decided to support American jobs and buy American for a change. Presented with a reasonable alternative to buy a quality American or European product, I will every time.
Thus I chose the LEICA M9 for most of these photos, whose image sensor is made by Kodak in Rochester, New York, USA, just like the sensors they put in missiles, spacecraft and satellites."

Someone please lock up this clown!
That IS pathetic! Someone program the gps location of his server into a droid and do everyone a favor!

Yes he writes some garbage, but you don't have to read it to download the DNG files!

No, LR 3 DOES have an M9 profile. LR 2.5 does not. The profiles are not part of ACR; ACR simply uses the profiles under the new raw engine. And yes, they make a difference in interpretation of noise color, etc.

That's good, I'll have to download the beta and see how it compares to the C1.

not sure I like the chroma noise. $7K for a camera that has this trait, not good.
DigiLloyd and Reid Reviews did not find chroma issues in their reviews. Not sure where you see all this chroma. DigiLloyd found the M9 noise gave the images a film like look. BTW, he was pretty hard on the M9.
