Great work with the Mandarin I have never seen one in person before.

Hi Heath & thank you so very much,
I only posted here because I know people know how much I love our pets.
Glad you enjoyed the Mandarin - he's so beautiful.

My sympathies to you and your family, Lil. Birds are cool, and Marahute looks like he was a cool character.
The more pets you have, the more sorrow you will endure with their passing. The memories you shared with them will last a lifetime. Pets are family.
Tony
I like the #7 Mandarin shot the best. To me, they always look better in subdued lighting.
Thank you Tony,
he sure was. Most people thought him as a real character. He's made many people laugh very hard over the years.
Your words are so very true. I told my Vet's assistant this morning that - "I should not have pets. When they pass it hurts too much & I miss them too much. I do love them so. " Teary eyed she told me " That's why you're the perfect person to have them." That meant a lot.
Thank you for your top pick of my Mandarins. I do believe I have some others coming your way in a more subdued lighting....
Thank you again for your kind words.

So sorry for your loss of your beloved Cockatoo, 'Marahute'...I lost my Blue & Gold Macaw "Oz" in my divorce settlement a few years ago and still miss him....They are very special pets....
Those sure are great shots of the Mandarin, that's a very beautiful bird.....
Thank you Jim,
I appreciate you thoughts about Marahute. I feel for you about "Oz". It's not only hard for us, but it's hard for them as well. This seems to be happening with both dogs, cats & birds these days. Not a good thing. The larger they are - the longer they live & the more they seem to have to give us. They are such characters & they do become a huge part of our lives..... You are in my thoughts over "Oz" that must be so hard....
Glad you enjoyed the Mandarin shots.

As to your wonderful Mandarin shots, WOW! All are really Beautiful! My favorites of this set are 1, 2, 3 and 5. I have never seen one in person, but if I get a shot half as good as any of these, I will be jumping up and down shouting woohoo!!

Thank you for your kind words. Had a long talk with our Vet today about it. And he knew how loud Marahute could be. So strange how no one heard him - not even the neighbors...... We will heal - in time.
Tim - the Mandarins look like that. All I've done is set the WB to Daylight - Sun. That's all. They are stunningly beautiful. Come back down & we'll try to locate some for you.

It's very hard to loose them. Too hard actually. But I guess that pain shows how much we care & love them & they do carry that with them I'm sure.
Very sorry to hear about your loss of Marahute. We lost a Ring-necked Turtle Dove several years ago and were so sad. Still think of that crazy bird that would get on your shoulder and stamp when it wanted a special treat.
Your shots of the Mandarin are super and a fitting tribute to your lost Marahute.
best wishes

Lil, I was so thrilled as I saw each of these stunning images of the Mandarin as I've missed seeing your work (on a regular basis ) then the news of your beloved bird turned my smile to a frown. I am very sorry to hear what happened and I know from personal experience the pain of the void that remains. I can only hope the memory of the time you all had together will one day soon win out over your sorrow.
I am so sorry Lil. Having animals is hard because whatever you give them they give back 10 fold in unconditional love. That is what makes it so hard when we lose them. Death from old age is hard enough but this circumstance must be devastating for you an your family. God bless and may the memories give you some peace.
Dear Lil,
So sorry to hear about the loss, my sympathy is with you. Its never easy to lose a loved one, especially those who love us unconditionally. I hope that your memories of Marahute will help ease the pain of not having him physically close to you anymore.
Beautiful images of the Mandarin. I like the second one best as well.
Take care my friend.
I have never seen a Mandarin before, such wonderful shots. I like them all, but #2 is cooooool. Your photos always show the energy of the subject, what a nak you have.
As for your loss, "Chi" can be defined as one's "life energy". Energy is neither created nor destroyed, it just takes another form. Your friend is still with you and the creator will transform his Chi into something beautiful to be shared with another.

Thank you Mike,
I am so sorry to hear about your Ring-necked Turtle Dove. They are so beautiful & to read about his/her character is wonderful. Marahute used to play "Eagle" off my arm & he would talk on the telephone with Ross when he was on location. They had their own "language" Marahute only used for Ross. He loved Andrea Botticelli & Opera. Puccini was for sure his favorite. He loved to dance & strut his stuff. He would bring sticks for the Lovebirds & play tug-of-war with them. He would chase the cats all over the yard & shared the water bowl with the squirrels. All stayed away from him as he was rather the bully with them. The only ones who did not back down were the Lovebirds & then that raccoon.
We still curse that raccoon. Backyard is lit like - well you know.... Most raccoon unfriendly backyard these days.
Glad you enjoyed the Mandarin shots.

Tom
Tom,
I'm very happy you enjoyed the Mandarin shots & I do understand about your reaction to the news about Marahute. I have mentioned him here many times. I knew going in that that piece of news would make this thread a bit strange. But I just did not have the strength to do a separate thread for Marahute the way I did when Flicka passed in May. Flicka was old by cat standards at almost 18 years. And as a purebred cat - most would not have expected her to live that long.
Marahute did not die of old age & he was brutally & savagely murdered. This was a very surreal situation. He had been outside for over 5 years with no incident nor problem. I guess we should remember & live with the though of just how happy he was out there. You should have seen him go. It was something else. He was the king of the backyard.
Thank you for your kind words. I am late to respond. Much because the fact that the tread is kind of hard for me. Not to mention the fact that I have the computer in the kitchen from which I see the backyard & his cage - at night this backyard now feels very hostile & thus I spend very little time in the kitchen now at night. This will pass in time I'm sure - - but for now it's still to painful.
Thank you Tom - - I will try to get back on track fast.

we appreciate you kind words. I do tell Ross all the comments we have gotten here & I do believe they help him a bit. It is very hard on him. Marahute was first & foremost his bird. Things will get better - but it will take some time. But we so appreciate the support from here. All of us.
Thank you for your kind words my friend. And I'm so very happy you picked # 2 as well of the Mandarin shots.
Many thanks for sharing your images of the Mandarin Duck. It certainly is one of my favorites - up there with the colorful wood duck. My understanding is that the only place to find mandarins is 1) At duck breeders / collectors
B) At a zoo. Since they are not indigenous to the US they are not easy to find (even in the wild!!). Care to share his whereabouts?? I assume a zoo and the west coast is too far for me.
Sorry to hear about the raccoon attack on your bird. Animals are funny beings having their own personalities and become real friends.
