One of the few black and whites that I have created in a while. I realize it might come off as too busy to some. I've found myself slightly bored lately with shooting trees and such, so I went to Niagara Falls today to walk around. And what do I come back with, but a tree! I wasn't outfitted to shoot in the heavy mist that was coming off the falls today, so I only went as far as the brink and not much further down.
I like this quite a bit. The composition seems solid, especially with the contrast between the bent tree and the perpendicular lamp post. I do find myself wish it had more contrast with more true blacks in the image. YMMV
Indeed Lazlo, you are right, ice could certainly be the cuplrit. In this area near the falls the fallng mist coats everything and, while making it look like quite a sparking winter wonderland, can get quite thick. Thanks for your comment, much appreciated.
Thank you as well simdoc1. I had already upped the blacks quite a bit actually, perhaps I should have another look. Thanks again!
My own personal preference would be for a slightly wider shot with the tree and light filling half to two thirds of the width, but not knowing what distractions may be to the left maybe it isn't possible.
I do like the way the tree angles out from the bottom right of the frame and the light pole seems to anchor it.
I agree with simdoc1 in that blacker blacks might help.
You're right in your assumption Tim, didn't have much room to the left here - fence turned towards me and had some other not so pleasing shrubbery/random weeds/foliage escaping over it.
I did end up making the blacks slightly blacker. Didn't prep a for web version of that though, but thanks for the suggestions.
