p.1 #1 · Light Grey 28-70

Does anyone know where I could get a Light grey 28-70? I see there is one on ebay, but I have to believe there are more somewhere. Anyone have one they are looking to sell? I have a strange attraction to this lens, not sure what it is.

I bought a 70-200 that is the same color, like a dirty grey color. It is different but I think I would have rather had black.

ebay is where the majoprity of this lens is sold, being it's a different color you'll pay $1300 V.S around $950-1000 for a same condition black lens.

In all honesty unless you like wasting money or satisfying meaningless urges I wouldn't pursue this any further. ;) However, if it is because you see the "benefits" of a lens not getting as warm that is better reasoning. But in the end it is your money so what does my internet opinion matter anyway???

If I am not mistaken some dealers can special order light coloured Nikon lenses you may want to try that but I am not sure if you will find a 28-70.

Good luck

Try Grays of Westminster in the UK. Ffordes (also in the UK) appear to have gotten a bit stock of new-old Nikon in (they have 'new' F3 cameras on their site at the moment). I didn't look but they might have gray in stock.

Oho, I just realised the humorous possibilities of Grays selling gray lenses (maybe gray merchandise). But seriously, they sometimes have the gray stuff in stock, and I know they recently had a shedload of gear come in from Japan.

I was told that they grey version lenses which I think were only available for the 28-70, 70-200 and a rare 300 f/4 AF-s (which I used to own both 70-200 and 300) were only manufactured in Japan. But I'm not sure how accurate that information is... not sure if that matters to you or not.

*EDIT*

And as previously mentioned by another poster on the thread, you will pay a lot more since these lenses have become more "rare"

Ebay, but also try KEH, and the used sections of B&H and Adorama.

Why would you want the grey one anyway? Just wondering. I for one think black looks better. Grey seems like it would get dirty and scuffed easier. One thing I never liked about the Canon lens was the off white color.

the nikkors availbe in light grey are

28-70 2.8
80-200 AF-S 2.8
70-200 VR
300 AF-S 4.0
AF-S 300mm 2.8 (non vr)
AF-S 400mm 2.8 (non vr)
AF-S 500m 4.0 (non vr)
AF-S 600mm 4.0 (non vr)

as far as how well they keep, i'd say not well- the light grey paint chips often so any lens that is used on a regular basis will not look fantastic do to the obvious wear, this is not only unapparent in the black models but because that is the most common way they come factory they won't ever have the same paint chiping issue.

My gray 70-200 has kept quite well over 4 years... but then I do my best not to bash photo gear.
