I'm really liking the first 2 as well. The 4th would probably be more dramatic with a crop of only the skyline. What set-up were you using, if I may ask?

Thanks, I didn't know that you can bring a tripod to the observatory so I was shooting everything handheld. I was using a Canon 5D2 with a 24-105L lens.

Boy, those first two just explode off the screen. Well done!

Peace,

Here's one where I cropped it.

It's been fairly clear the past few days, I've been thinking about heading up there for a sunset, but will have to wait for a weekend. The abundance of high/low pressure sodium lamps make things too 'orangey' - so in the stitch below, I cooled it down a bit. Bring a small tripod next time and you can get the same vantage point from the loggia looking down over the LA basin.

I think your #1 shot, with the orange/cyan (going to blue/reddish) complimentary tones, captures the space well. Where are all the tourists? Your framing is blissfully clear of them....

Great shot! I like what you did with it. I will definitely bring a tripod next time. Hopefully, my pictures of LA will come out sharper.

I had to wait for a while until the shot was clear of tourists. Fortunately, a show was just about to begin so everybody was inside trying to get in.

Wow, handheld and these are colors and sharpness the 5D2 is capable of?!?! Amazing! Hmm, I'll need to try to replicate that with my T1i someday sometime. And, I'm honestly just an amateur. When I meant crop of the skyline, I meant the buildings in the center. I may be using my terms in correctly, . That panoramic sunset shot is very pretty though.

However, after looking in your original, were you trying to include the zigzag of the street on the lower left? Anyways, I'm sure you can do better crops than me since you have the full file. Again, I'm new to photography, so take my advice with a pound of salt. HAHAHA

#2 is my favorite, but you might want to clone out the dust spot just above and right of center.

I actually had to prop the camera up on a ledge while I was holding it and used the 2 second timer to take the shot several times. So it wasn't completely handheld.
I see what you meant about the crop but I didn't want to crop too much or else it would loose a lot of detail or show the lack of detail. I do wish I had a longer lens to get that close though. Thanks for the comment.
