This was taken while I was having my boys get ready for some pictures.
I always ask my children not to smile no matter what. I find, in a passive aggressive way, it is the best way to get the smiles later on.

I like everything about the shot ...except it has a flat look to it. Maybe this was what you were going for? I pulled the shot in to PS... it is greyscale at the moment.

What are your thoughts?

Just playing around.... added a "S" curve to the shot... played around until I liked it... not sure if you will.

FWIW, the last edit is the best...IMO

the blacks are truer black, etc

I will have to try latter to match it.
I am just starting BW - but I am sure this would have helped in color as well.

IMHO, I liked the first, by far, best of all. While the face is flat, the attitude stands out in sharp relief. When the face is given more contrast and feature, it becomes the primary point of interest rather than the attitude. I like your title. It fit. Of course, it all depends on what you're going for.

Steve, to start with, Good Capture! Nice shot. I like the expression and his overall look.

Your tweak to adjust the midtones was a pretty good job. Just comparing those two, the second was far better.

Then Hatch jumped in with his version. Wow. Now the shot looks three dimentional. (Chuck would be proud)

So, Hatch. Now you are obligated to post your processing steps here on this thread so the rest of us can learn how you did that. No excuses! Post up.

the freckles are adorable and more prominent the higher the contrast, however with the most recent edit you've lost black detail in the hair.

i'd keep the high contrast, but brush it off his hair.
