first week in January 2009 there was a weak pound to the euro and they cut their vat back a bit too, so I ordered this from Grays of Westminster in London...
D700 for 1535
70-300vr for 305
with shipping and after conversion to euro I paid around 2150 euros...saved myself about 700 euros...i was happy...still am...though i did recently send my lens back to nikon...autfocus stopped working...waiting for it to come back any day now...
oh, and by buying via England I get a two year warranty on everything instead of the one year warranty given in France...
picked up an 80-200 2.8D a couple weeks ago for $500.00, it's got a couple scuffs, but no more than my previous kit lenses that I bought new and had rarely ever taken out of the bag.
Just got a D2h for $400 including shipping.
Also got a Tamron 28-70 (I think) 2.8 for $130.00 6 months ago or so.
Wish I had realized the value of used gear a long time ago....
Wish I had realized the value of used gear a long time ago....
I've been thinking the same thing recently...like in about two years, maybe three...d3x, M9, but I guess where technology is will matter...but definitely some good deals to be had on glass and bodies down the road...

I picked up my D40X with 18-55 and 55-200 Nikon lenses with Tiffen UV filters and a Nikon Polarizing filter, 2-2g SD cards, battery, charger, camera bag and SB600 for 475.00. It's my first DSLR and suits me well, after looking at prices for a D40 on here I figured 475.00 for all that wasnt too bad. Only had 976 actuations on it too!
Just got a D2h in the mail today that I paid $400 for including shipping/fees. 8fps feels like a machine gun going off after having shot the past year with a D80
