p.1 #1 · Software.... Photoshop

I have ran into a problem that I thought would never happen to me. Computer Crashed!!! Here is where the problem lies..... I purchased photoshop 7 and downloaded onto my computer. Shortly after that my little girl decided to shred some of my CD's in the paper shredder, one of them being photoshop. I didn't worry about it because I had just brought photoshop cs upgrade. Now I have a upgrade CD but cant do anything with it because the full version is gone. My question is....... Is there a way to put photoshop on my computer without the orig. CD even though I have the upgrade Any and all suggestions welcome. If I have to buy something could you tell me the cheapest route possible. Thanks

Adobe should have a record of all of your Photoshop purchases, that is, as long as you registered and activated your original copy. I'm not certain if you can substitute a download for a hard copy, but go to their website and login and then go to your account. Once there, you should see a selection of your purchases along with the serial numbers for each. If you see a "download" next to your PS7, then you're good to go. If you don't, you may have to request a duplicate of the original CD, you might have to pay a nominal fee plus shipping.

Try my suggestions, I hope you're not SOL, but you may have to call them to request a download or copy of the CD. It would help if you had your order number and serial number to give to Adobe. Yes, you'll have to have the original PS7 installed before using the upgrade.

Generally, with Photoshop, you only need the serial number of the older version when installing an upgrade. During the install you'll be asked for the original serial number.

What Gordon said.

The only valuable part of previous versions of Photoshop is the serial number.

All you need is the CS CD—which you have—and your PS7 serial number (which you hopefully still have, and which Adobe or you can look up if you don't).

You could talk to Adobe and try to ask them about upgrading to CS4 from CS. I had a damaged Acrobat disk a few years back and it wasn't listed on the upgrade, but they let me do it by giving me a special serial number. Then again they could say tough. If you do upgrade from CS you can use the the CS serial number for the upgrade.
You should be able to use CS again by checking with Adobe about the PS7 serial number. But many folks didn't register there PS7 copy as you didn't have to and there was that chance that you could set up a third copy if you needed to, the reason Adobe went to activation. If you did register your PS7 copy, Adobe will help.
