My daughters and I skate on our local inline speedskating team. While the sport is not as popular as other indoor sports it does share the same horrible lighting. Without flash I often struggle to get 1/500 ss even at 6400 iso and f/2-2.8. So tonight I decided to experiment with bouncing an AB800 off the ceiling to see what results I could achieve. Although I would have preferred to use 2 strobes I think the pics came out pretty good with just one set to full power.
All shot with a D3 and 70-200 at 1/250, f4, ISO 800.
They look really nice. The reflections look cool and you might want to experiment with framing more of the reflections. Anyway, nice work and thanks for sharing.
What the others said +1. Funny, not eben sure what made me look at this thread, but I'm glad I did. I agree I would like to see a "reflection" images - I think that could be killer. The floor and background allow you to have some serious potential here for some outstanding images (even though these already are outstanding). Think about adding a single SB unit on a small stand and using it for some side lighting. Underexpose the BG by a stop or so

These are beautiful! Great colors and light, and that has to be really challenging conditions.
Is there an angle that you can get the reflection of the skater's on the floor? Might be cool.
I was thinking the same thing about the reflection Great looking stuff..
These are not good they are great... fast movers in a darker enviroment and then illuminated by strobe at a fairly large lens opening...Well done!! I do love the reflection! Did you prefocus on one spot or did you use the Nikon's AF??
Keep up the great work
