p.1 #1 · New iPhone app for JrX setup reference!

This is a little self-promotional, but I'm not selling anything so I hope it's ok. I had been wanting to learn the iPhone SDK for some time, and after I bought the RadioPopper JrX Studio kit and a few extra receivers, I came up with the idea that it might be nice to have an iPhone application to help configure the dip switches on the devices. This especially came to a head when I found myself on a shoot having forgotten the business card reference guide that RP includes with the devices. When I got home, I immediately took a photo of the reference card to put on my iPhone, but I figured I could go one better with an app and learn something in the process.

I first wrote the app using RP's logos and everything, hoping to get their approval to release it that way and offered it up to them on spec (no charge) to allow me to release it. They were very nice but as time went by I became anxious to get it submitted (knowing the kind of nightmares some developers have had with getting through Apple's approval process) and so I made a "generic" versin of the app and submitted it. It's been about 11 days and Apple has released it into the store. Hopefully RP will let me update it with the look that I started with, but in the meantime, it is available for anyone who wants it (and has an iPhone) for free in the iTunes App Store.

The app really isn't rocket science, so please don't expect that. It is for REFERENCE only and replaces the card RP gives you to carry in your camera bag. No it doesnt trigger flashes or do anything wacky, but you can touch the dip switches to change their state and see the modes, channel and group change or change the modes, channel and group directly and the correspoding dip switch configuration will be shown. That's all. Like I said, not rocket science, but it really taught me the background of iPhone development (for a guy that wrote his last line of C code 20 years ago there were some fundamentals to overcome) and it is something that I'm sure I'll use (I've actually been using it for several weeks now).

Here is a link to my website for the app and there is a link to the iTunes store where you can download the application for free.

Thanks and enjoy.
