p.1 #1 · Women's Soccer C&C please.

Well I seem to be shooting more sports lately. D300, ISO 2000 f2.8 @ 1/500th 80-200 f2.8. Conversely, a couple are @ ISO 4000, f4 @ 1/500th. C&C welcome and wanted.

Eric,
White balance and exposures look pretty good. Action is decent--better in some of these shots (1-4) than others (5-7). My #1 suggestion would be to crop tighter. #'s 2, 3 and 4 are too loose in my opinion, with unnecessary dead space or distracting elements detracting from what you want the viewer to focus on. (For example, in #3, the only point of interest is the two players on the ball. Doesn't really matter where they are on the field, what the other players happen to be doing, etc.) #5 is not a keeper in my opinion; 6 and 7 are questionable in this regard.

Eric,
I also shoot with a D300 and I just dont think the D300 can handle most "sports action" over iso1600. Even though the D300 is leaps and bounds above the D200 (which I had prior) these new Nikon iso machines (D3,D700,D300s) are making me feel like I'm in the dark ages as far as my gear. Otherwise as far as the images.. I agree w/ Russ's take.

Thanks for the thoughts folks. Bob - what do you mean by not being able to handle it? AF speed or noise levels?

Thanks
Eric

D300 and D300s share the same sensor...which as Bob noted, is not up to the task of high iso shots like the d3/d700 and even more so with the d3s. Noise levels wise anyway.....AF is better too imo.

I mean the combination of both in low light situations to get images that are worthly of a gallery or portfolio. I'm talking "action" sports such as Basketball, vollyball, swimming and simular.

Brad,
I did'nt look into the D300s that much but, I thought it was a little better (iso wise) then the D300. Maybe I should research a little before I open my mouth

Eric,

#5,6 &7 are APA (after peak action) and would most likely not end up in the keeper list. Russ' comments are also spot on in regards to loose compositon and should be cropped in PP. To this I would add that from the angles it appears these were taken from a standing position. Next time around you might want to consider trying it from a kneeling position. Suggest getting some good knee pads for any extended time in that position.

Best Regards,
Matt

The 300s shares the same sensor as the D5000, which is slightly better noise wise than the 300 but not as good as the 700 and D3. It has become a headache to figure out what's what in Nikon world. Canon is no better.... Mickey is a mouse, Pluto is a dog. What is Goofy? That would be the 7D

Thank you for the the thoughts folks. I'll give it another go at some point. This was the first time I had attempted Soccer. It seems like each sport I try is harder than the last.
