Talking about the 18-50mm 2.8 EX DC HSM Macro

I have read all the reviews, but would like your opinions on the lens if you own one.
It will be my walk around lens mostly on my D-90, but will be used on my D-3 as well.

Thanks

You know that it's a DC lens (Sigmas equivalent to Nikkor DX lenses)?

Cant tell you about it's qualitys, but I can recommend the Tamron 17-50 - served me well on the D80.

As I read it the DC does not denote a quality level like Nikkor does, it is in reference to the sensor size.
The EX is there top of the line model notation.

I know it will not work well on my D-3 as it has a full frame sensor.

Just an FYI DX doesn't necessarily denote a quality level. Just look at the 17-55mm F/2.8 DX Nikkor and the 12-24mm f/4 DX Nikkor.

I don't know about the HSM version but the previous version of the same lens is not a top performer, you are better off with a Tamron 17-50 2.8, the best cheap performer in that range. The AF, however, will probably be slower than with the HSM version. And using a cheap piece of plastic on a D3, and not even shoot in FX mode, does not make sense at all, as far as I am concerned. You could at least go for a lens like the Tamron 28-75 2.8, if you want a cheap but high quality option.
