What is the best way to test a lens for focus issues?
I have only had my DSLR for a week now and haven't noticed any issues until I shot some macro shots of a fly yesterday. I took 3 shots, 2 AF, 1 MF...all attempts were at f 2/8 with the focal point set on the eyes; each shot had the back [thorax] of the fly in focus in stead. I loaded the pictures with View NX and it even shows the focus point on the head, but the body was in focus instead.
If you were handholding the camera there is a great possibility with because of the slim DOF with macro that you moved just enought to move out of the DOF of the lens at whatever aperture you had set. Try it on something using a tripod and see if that doesn't help.
Thanks for the replies.
Will try the tripod Lab. I was leaning the cam on the edge of a slide and just figured it would have taken enough shake out, with a high shutter speed that any motion from me would have been negated.
