Beautiful!
This is why the camera body matters more than ever before. Glass is terrific, but a powerful sensor makes it really shine. And vice versa, of course.

OTOH, if he didn't have a lens with f2.8 & 300mm he couldn't have got the shot either. Assuming the lens used was the Nikon 300mm f2.8 VR, the lens still cost $1,700 more than the camera. I think the D300 would have got the shot also, at f2.8 and 1/500 shutter speed. Anyway, the important thing with this shot is the light. Where I live there are currently millions of migrating birds and thousands of public places to find them. I was out this morning, in fact. Left my Nikon home and took my Beretta 12 ga. though. I assume this was shot in one of the Northern Plains states, such as Nebraska or North Dakota? This is a fairly common scene there this time of year. (Although the light makes this one excellent.)

Wrong! I have the D300 and 200 f2 VR and left 'em home. The noise would have been unbearable, SOOC.
I brought what I know would do the job at that FL and the light I had to work with. Millions/thousands
of places huh Glad you're not prone to exaggeration, Kent!
