p.1 #1 · New file and old file

It's been quite quiet around here and when I went to our local preserve,I wanted to
get some Flicker images but I couldn't. Instead,Blue Jay showed up and they
perched on a tree very close to me. Black-throated Sparrows are from my old files
and I took these shots almost a year ago at Joshua National Tree Park.
I'm thinking about going up there next month to do some star trail shots at night.
It will be freezing cold.

Hide, you have some of the best BGs I've ever seen on almost ALL of your photos. They are just a joy to view. Enjoy your trip to Joshua and getting them star trails. PM me when you go! Maybe I'll head down for a night and join you. I always wanted that shot with a tree in the foreground and the stars circling above!

Thank you,Conrad. I've been wanting to do star trail photography and you can not
ask any better place to do than Joshua Tree Park. I've been doing some research about how to do it right but they say that the best time to do is after midnight when
air planes are not flying often in that time zone.I'll let you know when I'm going but where are you coming from? Sounds like a really long drive?

Thank you,Rob. Yes, you're right that it's a Western Scrub Jay. I always confuse it with a Blue Jay.

Hide,

what a beautiful set. You do have some stunners here.

Why is it that most So Californians all call the Scrub Jay a Blue Jay I know that's what I was taught from the beginning & only when I got my first bird book did I find out that this is the wrong name for the bird.....

Love all the shots - but # 3 & 4 are my favorites.

Thanks for looking Jim. As for the bird ID,it's actually a Western Scrub Jay.
I don't know why but I always call it a Blue Jay.

Thanks for your kind comments,Kirk. I heard that Scrub Jays shake peanuts to find if it's full of peanuts or not and that they pick the one fully loaded with peanuts.
Smart bird.

Thank you for your kind words,Lil. I totally agree with you about this bird ID.
I know this is not a Blue Jay but I always tend to call it a Blue Jay. When I first saw this bird, I even didn't know what it was and I called it a Blue bird and I posted their images here. Soon, someone here corrected the bird ID for me.
