Was wondering if anybody had good experiences with 3rd party brand batteries for the Canon 1D MK II? I figure on getting a spare back-up to the canon battery.
I've been using three Lenmar DMC-E3 batteries (replacement for NP-E3) with my two 1DII bodies for about 18 months, alongside two original Canon NP-E3's. They all work about the same - very well.
About 2 or 3 years ago I needed new batteries. I bought a Canon and a Delkin. At first the Delkin delivered more shots. About 900 for the Canon and about 1100 for the Delkin. 2+ years later the Canon is still good for 800 shots and the Delkin is dead, slowly wore down to now it's good for about 50 shots before going dead. The Canon was $120 while the Delkin was $60

That is most certainly not my experience with Delkin, they and Lenmar have both performed extremely well across a range of Canon 1D/1Ds bodies for me. They also carry a 100% replacement warranty for 2 full years.
Has anybody had any problems with the weather sealing or incorrect battery capacity on these 3rd party batteries? I read on another forum that there is some kind of a chip that canon embeds in their batteries so that it gives an accurate feedback to the camera as to the power (full, half etc) charge left while the 3rd party does not. Ever found that your battery goes from full to suddenly close to empty?

No, the voltage is read from the camera. With NiMH batteries the voltage is fairly flat, so the charge level is not indicated with much accuracy.
