p.1 #1 · Canon 1DS Mark III problems

Hi All,

Have any of you ever had a lens release pin refuse to release? I have a 600mm Canon lens stuck on a 1DS Mark III body. The push button on the lens release depresses, but the lens release pin does not go down.

Calling Canon and they keep telling me to send it to CPS. What I really want is to learn what the fix is. Canon doesn't like to share this little secret.

Shipping a lens this big that is mounted to the camera is an iffy proposition. Not only is it very expensive, but packing it is difficult- and the lens could not go into the original case.

POX on Canon for their itty bitty lens release pins. They should have a better engineered system. FYI- the pin on this body refused to fully engage after putting the lens on several times. And the camera was new.

Anyone have ideas about how to fix this? Sticking a .005 feeler gauge in does verify it is the lens pin not releasing and not something else. Everything else works.

Thanks.

I once had my 500F4 fall over with the Mk2n attached. The pin was bent and the only way to release the lens was take it to canon and have it removed.
They have to remove the entire mount and replace the pin.
Took about an hour to fix not very expensive.
Oh the pin is pretty tough mine fell over while i left it standing on long grass and the MK2n hit with a solid thud.

Dehowie, thanks for the input. I figure replacing the mount in the camera is the answer, but gee whiz, how does one remove the lens to get to the pin/mount? What gets destroyed to get the lens off?
