I have been going back and forth (and will continue to) about canon vs nikon since I currently have crop glass (canon) and am making the move to FF. I love the ruggedness of the nikon Dxxx series, and the 14-24 on a FF, but I am not sure I can handle two huge and expensive lenses for the type of photography (travel) I do. Something in the 24-120 range would suit me way better, but obviously I wouldn't put that lens on a great camera like the D700. The 24-85 intrigues me. Any photos from the D700 with a 24-85 mounted would be appreciated.
Which 24-85 are you looking for... the AF-S or the AF-D?
There's also the Tamron 28-75 which a lot of people say optically isn't that far off the excellent 28-70 Nikkor.
I have the 24-85 AF-S but I'd have to search the archives for some FX shots with it. I'll see what I can find in the next while... it's decent optically, though obviously not anywhere near the same league as the 24-70.
