p.1 #1 · McWay Falls.....

After leaving Morro Bay that morning, Martin and I arrived in the area @ 1 pm-ish. It was bright and hazy with overcast/thin fog.
It's a spectacular sight, neither of us had ever seen it, and we were there, so.....
This is a two-shot focus blend.
And taking a cue from Al , I thought, with the bright light, it might work as a b&w, too. I utilized a little orton hoping to enhance the conversion.
Hope it works a little for you. Thanks for looking and for any comments.

Barry

Hmm - I gotta go with the color on this one Barry. There is just too much neat info going on in the color version for me.

Nice blend - I like this result a lot.

Barry, I am really drawn to the B & W conversion. NIce touch! I find in this version the scene opens up a tad more as the dominant tree trunk on the right is not as noticeable.

Barry, I prefer the color version, and I think it is beautiful. There just seems to be so much more detail displayed in it. The varied colors in the water just can't be captured as dramatically in the b&w.

That is a spectacular view. If it wasn't for the trees, it could be mistaken for a scene from the tropics.

Maybe just a tad less tree on the right.

Very lovely.

Cheers,
Ed

I guess I go along with the crowd.
The color version is it & I agree, the tree on right is a bit dominate.
Take that from a guy who often includes too much tree

Nice capture. I will have to visit this spot next time I go to Pfieffer

Thanks for posting

BW works well on this Barry. There enough different shades of gray to give a nice spread of the histogram

The colour for me Barry and I really like the idea of the 2 focus blend...you've really got me thinking, and planning, on that idea!

Barry

Very cool, really like the color version here even though I'm a huge B&W fan. The focus blend really worked out very nicely here as are the gorgeous colors of the water and sand. Is it true there is no way down to the beach. Man that would be a dream shooting the falls from about knee high out in the surf with a low POV. Well guess I can dream. Graet work here Barry

It's a stunning view when you get there and witness it for yourself Barry and I can detect the glee you and Martin experienced from your text. I really like your take in #1, nice framing and colours. It's my favourite.

Hey Barry,

I love the color view in this. You really captured this sweetly. I do think if you could go back and pull down on the brightness of the sky just a bit more, so that it is not brighter then the McWay Falls cove would be really cool. But I do love the look. IN B&W the sky area seems a bit darker... and helps that part to work better, but you really lose that super sweet teal and colors of #1...

This works a lot for me. I think it is gorgeous. I love the feeling of discovery. I prefer the color version but like them both.

I like the warmer feel of the color version. I like the tree on in the foreground. Gorgeous shots.

Thank you all very much.
David, it is a special place, and I only wish I didn't live 2000 miles away!!
I was going for a peek-a-boo look (I love Sharon's 'feeling of discovery'....thanks for that, Sharon!), hence the focus blend. Maybe I did get too much tree?
Jim and Fo, I'll see if I can recover more of the bg sky and sea in the color version....you should have seen the raw, the sky was really bright and hazy/foggy.
Jose, I did try to boost contrast for the conversion as much as my tastes carried me, again using orton to help. The conditions did produce quite flat, if bright, light that day, but maybe there's room for more.

Again, thanks for your friendly comments and suggestions everybody. Glad you enjoyed these.

Nice take on the falls Barry. Like the inclusion of the tree on the right, frames it a little. I like your comp better than most that I have seen of the falls.

Barry, I'm going to cast my hat into the ring for the color as well...but I'll keep the b & w and hang it on the wall....both are beautiful renditions...Kevin.

Euco bark sure works well as a foreground element.

Way to think outside the box Barry.
