I am actually waiting for these numbers very anxiously. Do you have an idea if we have to wait long? It may silly to some but after all the confusion (completely contradicting opinions about EOS 7D, as far as IQ is concerned), I am going to make up my mind on the day I see DxO test results.

Canon never claimed it to be. It is a CROP camera so what is the point of comparing it with a FF or APS-H?

It is just a camera. It does not matter what sensor it has - it has to be compared with other cameras' IQ. What are you comparing it with?

Have had it for a month now.
Don't see why anyone would want to compare a $1700 camera to a $2700 camera and say the $1700 one is worse.
I've used a 5DII and it is a lovely camera and awesome sensor. But that's the only advantage it has compared to the 7D.
the 5DII will never excel in sports or birding just like the 7D will not beat the 5DII in landscape or studio work.

Seems like those who paid 1k more for the 5DII need to keep commenting on how much better their camera is when the comparison is not from a level playing field.

Sure sound like an inferiority complex to me

Well some of us have both 5D2 and 7D so what is going on with us then?

a superior inferiority complex or just plain nuts?

anyway my take is the 7D does really well at higher ISO for an APS_C camera (but of course not as well as a 5D2, as only to be expected, aside from having less pattern banding which in the most extreme photos where everything is almost totally dark it might actually look a little better than the 5D2) but either through design or QC it has this weird issue that makes it do a lot worse, at least so far, at the lowest few ISOs than it should, it seems like it could do fantastically there too if only the G1 and G2 were in balance. Maybe ACR 5.6 will pull of a miracle....

yeah the fps and general body performance are WAYYYYYYY faster than with the 5D2 and it does have a lot more reach (although to this point, but hopefully not forever, that comes with some annoying artifacts)

It is currently the best CROP camera out at the moment bar none.
And I'm impressed how Canon is on the ball with firmware updates.

Why is it that these threads always turn into pissing matches between the last & the latest? And it seems to me exagerated claims get made by both sides. Obviously Canon consider these camera's to be aimed at different market segments, I'm not sure why there is a need to declare a "best"... Surely it's all relative to what you want to do with the camera?

I am still not certain why you would look at crop at FF cameras as separate entities. I am looking for the best IQ and just waiting to see how 7D compares with 5D mkII and 5D. I could not care less about video and live view but the viewfinder and focus quality 0f 7D play a role for me.
You did not say what cameras you are comparing it to.

It'll happen, but not until the 7D matures and the 1D4 has been out a while. When the sales of those two models taper, then you'll see the 5D3, or whatever it'll be called.

It may be funny to you but I am not going to buy the camera just to test it. There are so many conflicting reports and tests that (after spending a month looking at that) I am just waiting for numbers.
