Ok, So a friend of mine from awhile back approached me and asked if I would shoot photos for her business her and a friends opened up .. There doing personal training and own there own gym currently .. There looking to get pictures done for flyers/website and portfolio. Aswell as video of different workouts that will be going to clients. approx 45 min of it ..
So I guess what I'm asking is if anyone has any suggestions or tips .. Would I be able to get away with lighting inside with just a sb800 and sb600? and say a d70 or d90...There fairly low budget so its not going to be HUGE money in it .. Would the d5000 be good for shooting the video in it? I have access to these cameras through my work so those bodies arent an issue..
The gym is very small, Its more of a studio as opossed to the gym .. .. there wont be more then 2 people per shot... They want pictures of the studio .. Portraits of the trainers and I assume some shots in action aswell
For non-action shots, just bring a tripod. If lighting's an issue, you can then use a longer shutter. You may have a problem with flashes lighting the room unevenly or reflecting off shiny equipment.
I just did the same for a friend of mine in the same situation. I shoot a D300 and shot most of it with my 12-24 and 50 1.8. The area of the gym they were in had a black ceiling, lots of mirrors and windows on the walls. Try bouncing high up on the wall to get some directional light. If you bounce off the ceiling watch out for raccoon eyes. I was able to use the windows as rim light in some of the shots with a wall bounce so that might work for you too. The only other thing to watch out for is fluorescent lights and you'll either have to go high enough shutter speed to get rid of them and light it back with flash or gel your flashes. If you do some posed stuff with the trainer working with a client, make sure to tell a joke so they smile! It is supposed to look fun! The tripod is great for the posed stuff.
