Posted the shot below on flickr under the title "Should I be worried" with no hint as to what it was.
Got this wonderful explanation from someone there.

"This is clearly an aerial photo of the Okavango in Botswana, where the seasonal rains flood the desert, leaving only the tree-tops visible. The raking angle of the morning sun glints in the crystal clear water from the mountains far, far away, while thousands flee to pluck their children from its suffocating onslaught.... "

Looks like mold spores to me, but I could be wrong. The Okavango is definitely more sexy.

Kenny- yes it's mould colonies on a melon at 5:1 - I actually thought it looked like a rather nasty skin infection

Macro photos of unidentifiable scenes can easily become Rorschach tests IMO!

I personally like the tree tops theory better than the truth, although its enjoyment without any identification is striking. Perhaps that's one test of the quality of a macro photo as an abstract art form - if it's enjoyable without identification then it must be a work of art! (insert friendly smiles here)

Thanks for the comments
I suspect you would have to have seen the seasonal flooding there to come up with that explanation
