p.1 #1 · UWA lens for 1d mark iii help

well i f'd up and bought a canon 10-22 lens which i found out doesn't work without modifications to lens on my camera, so searching around i found a Tokina 11-16mm 2.8 and sigma 10-22 or 12-24.

does anyone know if the 11-16 or 10-22 sigma work with the apc-h sensor cameras?

No they will not work or, even if they do, only about 2/3 of the sensor will be covered by the lens since they have been designed for APS sensors.

If you need such an extreme FL the Sigma 12-24mm is the best (and only?) option for you.

+1, Only true UWA option for APS-H that works through the entire zoom range. Will work on full frame too... I can verify that the Sigma 10-20 will vignette heavily on the wider end of the zoom.

You should do yourself a favour and check the B&S here first.

I've been researching the Tokina 11-16 for use on the APS-H 1DIII and from what other users here have reported, it will work without vignetting from around 12-13mm. It's not ideal, and I guess essentially does what the Sigma does out of the box, but is still an alternative solution.

I've got the Sigma 12-24. I like it on the 1D3, love it on the 1Ds3.

I'm actually about this close *holds fingers up* to buying a Tokina 11-16 JUST to use it at 16mm on a 5D.. It's a fine lens by any measure.

I also have an inkling I may end up with a DX backup body in the near future so it would be ace for a wide on that

Depending on your zoom range requirements the Tokina could also be a viable alternative - 1.3x crop would cut out the iffy wide-open corners on FF and give you a very sharp ultra-wide which can be used at f2.8 in a pich for a nice price. Only thing is you would be limited to say 13mm-16mm zoom. BUT, many people use their ulra-wide zooms at only the widest seting and the longest setting and rarely make any stops inbetween.

Still, the Sig 12-24 is nice lens and far more versatile. I just wanted to throw pinch of salt in the discussion here

The 10-22 has a flange or something at the back of the lens that you should be able to pull out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canon_EF-S_10-22mm_lens
Modification

The lens is easily modified to allow use on 1.3x crop EF-Mount bodies such as the 1D Mk III by removing the snap-in rear plastic piece. The same modification allows the lens to mount on full-frame bodies such as the 5D, although the rear of the lens contacts the mirror at wider focal lengths.[7]

I've heard that the mirror-contact issue is not a problem, so long as you don't use the 10-12mm range
