Caveat freaking emptor here. FWIW, I remember few years back I ordered a very high end item from a person in XX, where high-end is defined as over 3k. When after multiple emails, telephone calls, etc., led to no response, I then posted on the site, where I first learned of the item, what the track record was looking like, i.e., not good. I fortunately have been and train with some fairly proficient SWAT and ERT and, shall we call them "long range precision rifle" folks. So, it was a simple matter to find an "asset" in the local area, advise the seller of the asset's "presence," express my intent to secure an amicable resolution, and within 3 days I had my item. It's not how much you know, it's whom you know

this guy doesn't pass the smell test.

Generally speaking, and there are always exceptions too, when one advertises an item so deep bellow a conservative resale value, there are two likely scenarios:
(1) it's a fraud of some sort.
(2) the seller is of reduced mental capacity.

Congrats. Higher risk . . . higher rewards. Of course, I never would have thought buying camera gear would be like gambling

Seems to me that an apology is owed to the seller, whose integrity and mental capacity was questioned here.

+1. Sure are a lot of loud mouths in this thread, but something tells
me that those who are quick to fire shots are also slow to apologize.....

I love when something like this happens. I would love to see if RandyR responds....he's hiding under a rock I'm sure or should be. I've gotten similiar deals in the past that were legit. I just paid $2,600 for an absolutely mint condition canon 300mm 2.8 IS. There are awesome deals out there. I've never been burned. There is always risk even when you meet in person but if you're smart you can minimize the risk.

I certainly feel elated that this was legit. This has to be 1 in quite a few that actually was real. The horror stories of too good to be true sound like gongs when you read stuff posted like this for sale for those prices. Good to hear.

Sorry guy, I am not on here much, but everything sold to Dan, great smooth transaction, I have other things to sell but I am giving Dan first dibs, some real Nikon collectibles. I think the price were fair for a quick sale, I could have held out for more but would have taken longer. time is money, and didn't want to waste to much time. my number is 407-414-5745, if any one want to verify, I believe I answered everyones email, and let them know I had a sale pending with Dan.

Thanks Dan
Milton

Randy, I hear ya. Do you recall the debacle on the other Nikon***s site where a guy, in NYS I think it was, ended up allegedly scamming a whole bunch of folks, reportedly selling the same lens to a number of different people? As I recall, couple of the guys over there tracked him down, got the local Constabulary involved, and the guy had criminal charges placed against him. As I recall, he either did time or plea-bargained his way into a better resolution. I'll pass on the similar deals out there if for no reason other than I don't have the kind of money it requires to take advantage of them

9 out of 10 good deals are scams? Its not like it was $1,000. $3,500 was a good deal. There was just another Nikon 200mm f2 on FM for $4k that didn't sell until it was put on eBay.

200/2 new = $5100
used once - $1600
just a 'good' deal cause time = money

I don't get it. The deal was legitimate, and you're questioning or belittling what exactly now ?

It is completely reasonable that someone might be willing to sell something for less than what he could get, if a lower price means a quick sale without the hassle of dealing with bargain hunters and tire kickers.

Even though I already own a 200/2 (which, I might repeat, I bought in like-new condition for $3500 Canadian), I wish I had been the buyer because I have the feeling Dan may be in line for some great deals. And good on him for having faith that not every good-looking deal is necessarily a scam.
