p.1 #1 · Tucson Area - No Images

Hi all,

I am going to be spending an evening in the Tucson area and would like to get some photos. Can someone recommend a good place to shoot in the area...unfortunately I will only have one evening.

Thanks,

Robert

Yea, the Gates Pass (head west on Speedway) area is one of the prettier places to catch a sunset.

What area of town will you be in? There are alternatives...

I don't know what time they close, but the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is another option.

Thanks for all of the suggestions. I will be in the airport area and working about 20 minutes north of there on during the day. I will have a car and can drive a reasonable distance. This will be my first trip to AZ.

Thanks again.

Since you're fairly far north, Catalina State Park might make for a nice lunchtime hike.

The Gates Pass area is fairly small, but does offer some hiking and excellent sunsets. A little further north is Saguaro NP. If you have time and inclination to take a longer hike, you'll find more options and variety of scenery here.

The other serious contender for your evening's time is probably Sabino Canyon. If you can get there an hour or two before sunset, and don't mind a ~2 mile hike into the heart of the canyon, the afternoon light can be very pretty. The canyon itself is gorgeous. Head east on Ina until it becomes Sunrise. After another ~8 miles, Sunrise terminates at Sabino Canyon Road. The Sabino parking entrance is a few hundred feet to the N.

Any of the above options will give you a good introduction to the Sonoran Desert.

Sabino Canyon - Follow the trail up the creek. Very close to town; lots of natural landscape in the canyon.
