I got mine lenscoart for 500mm lens, everything seem OK besides one part question. Is it safe to use this self adhesive part on tripod colar? Would it take paint out after years? Thanks!
I've used it on my 200-400. I haven't noticed anything removing paint yet, but it's only been 1 year. I think that the adhesive is rather mild and won't do anything to the paint. If you ever sell the lens, just sell it with the lenscoat and don't worry about it.
I have several lens coats but have never tried using the adhesive part for the tripod mount. However, when I had a B&S ad posted a while back, several people commented not having the adhesive section because it got 'gooey' in the hot sun. No one ever mentioned it causing any harm to the paint, but apparently the adhesive might get a little soft under the right heat conditions. Actually, the owner/operator of LensCoat is a member here (scott elowitz). I've spoken to Scott a couple of times and found him to be . Maybe you should ask him if the adhesive can become 'gooey' in the sun and if the adhesive formula has changed/improved.
No, don't use it. First of all, it's little of use to cover the collar. Secondly, the adhesive will stick on the collar. You don't want to know how hard I tried to get rid of those adhesive when I was selling my lens.

The optional adhesive strip with many LensCoats uses a mild non permanent adhesive that should not affect your finish. People have found that if there is any residue when removing the strip and product like "goo gone" (available at stores like Home Depot) easily removes it without damaging your finish.
