I was asked to do an engagement session by a friend. I'm a landscape photographer and haven't shot engagement stuff. But I have lurked here for the last 2 months and tried to learn from the masters. I've been especially impressed by Hoffer photography and tried to use his work as inspiration. Let me know what you think.

Hey, question, what lenses did you use for this shoot? In particular #2 and #18? I love the depth of field you were able to capture.
#18 was done with the Canon 35/1.4 L. #2 was with 135/2 L lens. I used these 2 for most of my shots here. I also shot a bit with the 90 tilt shift lens. I love the 35 and 135 though for people shots. They get very good results IMO..

Something tells me you've just helped me make some of my decisions in regards to what new lenses I'll aim at buying. I'm thinking of going the Prime route within the next year. Any disadvantages or advantages you'd care to share to either lens?
1-3 very nice control of light
4 needs more fill I think
5 light looks more harsh than 2,3
6 nice
7 watch your cropping
8 maybe more straight on
9 cute watch your cropping though
10 nice b&w
11 not enough light on her to blurry on him
12 not feeling it
13 interesting TS but almost makes me dizzy
14 don't dig the angle for him
15 love the light to much blur on him
16 I like the use of framing here
17 not a fan of selective color but she may love it
18 FTW
#18 is definitely FTW! I love the colors, framing and DOF.
Be aware the HAKs (Hoffer Ass Kissers) may get on your case for using a name+name then "engagement" underneath, because despite it being used this way by many photogs first, you may be blamed for copying.
Wow... there are some awesome shots here, and one or two that gave me a nose bleed. Overall a great set.
I like the effect on 13, but IMO it's a bit too distracting. Almost feels like the picture is moving... I seriously got a little vertigo looking at it.
15 fails for the reason that they are way too close (they are hugging there) for his face to be MIA.
I love 1, and think that the lighting on 16 is great, save for the reflection in the glasses
While I've never been a fan of the " look at the bottom of my shoes" shots, I like 18.
