According to this and other articles, the only big difference between the two is that HDMI transmits audio along with the video signal. The HDMI protocol is based on DVI.

I know this is an old thread - but I am curious as to if you have been happy with your purchase? I need a new computer that will be capable of running photoshop cs5, illustrator and indesign. I don't know enough to build my own - but maybe I could learn
Got a computer just when XP was released. (nothing impressive for the specs)
Ran CS4 extended for the past few months on it and upgraded (after almost 10 years) to a $400+ desktop computer. After running CS4 on 1.3Ghz AMD Athlon and 1GB RAM (and no OpenGL) this $400 computer is bliss! I can only imagine what a $2000 custom build would be like...
A fairly inexpensive computer will run all of the programs that you listed, but what kind of performance do you want? Off the shelf computers will be definitely adequate to run it, but the problem I have is that you couldn't upgrade your computer components as easily as with a custom build. And that would make it hard to keep up with handling software in 5 years (requiring much more power).
well boys and girls a whole new crop of processors drives ports and other doodads has come out and still no perfect machine. i do manage to get a print out i like though from my 3 year old PC. i did replace the printer though a few months ago.
