That's good. But are people also happy?

A not very intelligent, not very verbal, typical mediocre sort of human (and a good friend of mine) once said he was happy not to be too smart. "Clever people never seem to be really happy".

Since when does happiness have anything to do with the question?

But now that you mention it, I know that a Phase One P65+ digital back exists and am unhappy that I don't own one. I would indeed be happier if I were ignorant. However, this has nothing to do with tolerance or humanism.

I am never happy. I always want sharper, better micro contrast, more 3D and less CA and field curvature, and more lenses of course

I feel underqualified to comment on the intelligence herein, but I will say that I enjoy this forum because there's a wealth of experience and information that people are willing to share, and they do so visually with examples of their work. That's a boon for those of us, like myself, who are only literate enough to recognize gear manufacturers' names, focal lengths, and maximum apertures.

Anyway, Dan, when the willfully ignorant of the world get you down, I suggest you remember this famous Aussie prayer that I've always found comforting. "This here's the wattle, the emblem of our land. You can stick it in a bottle, you can hold it in your hand. Amen."

While looking at various forums, both in native language and english, the one forum that is opened every day is the alt forum here. Even now that my lens lineup is stable and money for the hobby is pretty much 0, I still enjoy reading here the various threads and try to help, even if I sometimes have the feeling others do it better than me. One thing that strikes me is the fact that there is a lot of respect to others opinion on this forum, so discussions and differences in opinion are expressed in a polite and civilized way and there is a real will to try and understand the other, something I have missed on other forums.
Hm, I should start being a little more inteligent and write smaller posts

I have to say also that this is really the only section of FM I visit on a daily basis.

The amount of knowledgable users here is brilliant.

It also brings to light the amount of good used glass from old systems
which can still be used on modern digital SLR's.

After joining about a year ago and getting hooked on the ALT gear,
I find myself constantly looking to fine tune my collection.

seriously addictive.

thanks to all the regular users this is a very active section of the forum.

I also have been spending more time here on the alt forum but currently don not own any alt glass. I agree that the overall group on the alt board are more informed about photography in general regardless of what equipment they are using. In the end its not about what equipment you use but, what you use that works for you. Unfortunately, just as it is on the Canon or Nikon board, some people here are quick to discredit any Nikon and Canon gear. Everyone has their opinion about what is better. We all like taking pictures, the gear doesn't matter beyond that users preferences.

To some the gear matters more than the picture itself. I'm not saying as a bad thing either, just what some people are into.

For some the pleasure is in the searching and finally coming across a very rare, and often forgot, jewel of a lens.

While that lens might perform great, its not so much about what the lens will do for your photography but simply the pursuit and the getting thats the best part.

I have a collection of vintage guitars even though I'm honestly not much of a musician. I just enjoy finding some unique old models when I can come across them. Just like with glass, they don't make them like that anymore.

Well not to mislead, in my original post I was only referring to the general discussions on Canon vs. Nikon, vs. Alt on a performance basis. If you just want to talk about collecting gear, I am a self admitted gear head

. I completely understand that frame of mind but, it has little to do with the merits of specific brand or lens performance.
