p.1 #1 · General Travel Photography Question Thread:

Frankly I wish there was a forum here for travel photography:

I do travel photography, about 60% landscapes, 30% portraits, and 10% other. A lot of it I do outdoors on long hikes/treks covering many days. For others who do the same I have so many questions:

How many bodies do you tend to carry (I tend to carry two).

How do you keep both cameras accessible while still having a backpack for non-camera gear?

How many lenses do you tend to bring (I think 3 is ideal, but seldom go with less than 4).

Backpack/holster advice?

Other hints?

Cheers in advance,

-TBri

p.1 #2 · General Travel Photography Question Thread:

I think travel photography means something different to each person, just as travel itself is different for each person, so as such, I think the specific needs apply better to the given forums.

As you said, it seems its either landscapes or portraits for you. For me however, I prefer to travel to places where no one else is so certainly count portraits off the list.

How one travels is going to really affect things as well. Take a trip by car and you can bring everything you want. Travel by air, especially internationally and you've really got to reconsider whats important to take.

Basically, how is travel photography with an interest primarily in landscapes different than landscape photography ?

How is shooting people on vacation different than otherwise shooting people as discussed in the people forum ?

Now obviously when one travels there might be certain gear choices that work better or worse, HOWEVER, I can think of no better place to ask about equipment related to landscape shooting than in the landscape forum.

A travel forum might be able to help you pack, with airline regulations etc, but I think the real useful info is going to come for discussion in the people, landscape etc forums.
