I chose a 7D over a used 1D mark III. I am focal length constrained and like the crop-ability of the 7D and the nice IQ.

I have the 1d3 and one thing for sure. The IQ from a 7d isn't as the 1d3. Lots of posts here prove that .

Completely different cam's try both and you will see the difference. Like a mercedes E class compared tot a ford focus. The focus isn't bad but the a completely other car than the E-class.

Personally I think the auto focus issue, what absolutely was a negative issue gives the 1d3 such a bad name that all good things were shadowed. I've got the 1d3 for about 3 months and it's a very good tool. Fast, sharp focus, punchy true colors. Much much better then my 30d who was very acceptable.

Like an E-Class compared to a Ford Focus? Hardly. More like a BMW 5-Series compared to an M3.

Have you ever used both I had the choice between a 5dm2 with some glass or a new 1d. Used both? (7d wasn't there to be honest). Bit the difference at a trial day was huge.

Very stupid if you ask me for such of good camera

Why is it stupid to sell a camera if you like that
Or should everybody keep it just because you like the price to stay high
And the price for a new is not $ 5000. I payed about $ 3400 and that was 1½ year ago.
It's not an investment, just a tool you use in photography

Perhaps it's a matter of choice and wallet possibility. Investment for pros, tools for both. ama and pro

A matter of choice choice of what and wallet possibility I don't even know what you talk about in your reply ? they are selling not buying ..........
Investment is something I belive would be worth more in the future. Like stocks, options, futures and similar things. I would not invest in something I know would be worth less already the day after I bought it. It's the work of the pros that make money. Not the camera body.........

Cameras are like cars now. They depreciate as soon as you buy it.
Although you can use them for as long as they function, the monetary life span is probably 6-8 years depending on the model.
So my new philosophy is to buy the best camera I can afford when I NEED a new camera and just use it. If a new camera arrives that has a compelling reason for me to upgrade, I will do so at that time. Nothing I do will change the value of these cameras so just enjoy it.
Of course the best thing would be to get a job as a photog so you can write these off on your taxes.

I have used a 1DIII on a couple of brief occasions actually, but not a 5DII. To be honest, that's my ego responding to your post...I just hate my new camera being called a Ford Focus

Why is this misplaced rant here? Do you not have the slightest concept of free market economics?

This thread is quite stupid if you ask me.

deepbluejh: .....slightest concept of free market economics

I am not sure where you live but I do not think that there is a free market anymore. I do not believe that you subsidize and "stimulate" heavily in "free market".

I witness 1D2n price dropping from ~2,100 to ~1,300 within 6 months. Hope in half year I can find a 1D3 for ~1500.

How does the 1D3 compare to the 7D in the high ISO IQ department?

If you choose to spend your money to buy the newest gear (and sell the old one fore much less then bought for) and your money isn't enough to go on a holiday anymore it's a choice. Wallet means for those who have money enough they can buy the newest cam's and go on a holiday and what so ever

I understand that the picture is taken by the pro and the cam is your tool.

Of course you have to sell the camera for much less than you bought it for Do you really belive that you can buy a new Canon 1D3 and use it a year or two and get nearly the same money back when selling it used

I didn't say that, did I?

But it's a reason to wait to sell (and buy new) and just continue take pictures with a very good tool. For me (amateur) its good enough.

This thread was about "Why people killing the camera at buy and sale forum

What, exactly, does 'necessary' have to do with market forces?

King Canute syndrome.

I remember paying the maximum on the 50D only to watch it drop $200 within months of its introduction. It happens and the 1dMk3 has been out a while. Besides, I for one will be on the look out for a good priced 1dMk3 myself. Who knows by that time the 1dsMk4 might show up. You never know what Canon's up to but one's pain is another's gain.

My dad always says, "A thing is only worth what somebody else is willing to pay for it". But the good news is if you don't agree with what a thing might sell for then you don't have to sell it! And furthermore we're talking about professional tools here for the most part, not investments but depreciatable business assets. I always choose the best tools for my jobs and the cost of my equipment is still a fraction of what most business owners I know must shell out for their operating assets.

Let me know when you find a way to kill the initial list price of the Mk4...that would get my attention.
