lauriek Offline Upload & Sell: Off p.1 #4 · MPE-65mm back from Canon service I suspect the MPE shortens it's focal length as you extend it, as far as I can tell there's not enough extension for 5x at the full 65mm (That would require over 30cm of extension). The compo in #1 is great, and I appreciate it more reading that you don't crop (should have guessed it from the name of your blog, and after so long *doh*). Have so far found it very hard to shoot the compo already worked out in my mind, than resorting to PP later. I had two equipment malfunctions this year (had to replace my MT-24EX and send the MPE-65 in for repair) so in the last two months I just got around to making a couple of changes that I should have made earlier in the year. One of them is to take two shots, one for the web and a slightly reduced magnification for print. I have a bad habit of cropping a little too tight with the view finder, so that when I go to mat or gallery wrap a print the critter is getting cut off. In hind sight I probably need to spend more time at lower magnifications anyway... Brian v. Thanks Brian I just need to sort out my lighting again -had everything adjusted for the EF-S 60mm and the angles I had the flash heads set to didn't work well for the MPE. There was a repair list included with the lens and this is from the tech who worked on it: "We have examined the product according to your request and it was found that the part was loose causing error 01 to be displayed. The power diaphragm ass'y and others were replaced. Checked all, adjusted center/tilt/focus & cleaned all factory specs." I think "the part" was the cable that runs between the lens contacts and the power diaphragm. The cool thing is that Canon only charged me for labor, so maybe they viewed the "the part" being loose as a manufacturing defect. Oct 31, 2009 at 07:22 AM
