To my PC peeps (aka my fellow brothers of the galactic empire).

Who's using and what are your impressions so far?

I'm going to install it in about an hour.

Also for fun, try and guess how many Mac users will troll this thread. Mac trolls, you can guess also, but don't forgot to include yourself.

I've been using it since last June or whenever they put out that public release, and yeah, it's pretty great.

Put it on my and my wife's pc's last week and seems to work well. However I do seem to have some firefox freeze problems that the screen goes light and it takes a while to clear. On my better half's machine, when the screen saver comes on the only way to wake is to hit control alt delete. Haven't figured that one out yet.

I've been on the ultimate for months now, wouldn't have it anyway. I do however still run Snow Lep on a separate HD for FCP.

Chrome runs VERY smooth on my system, I've given up on FF. I've not had any problems with my screen saver. What version are you running?

I like it. Smooth and fast even on an old laptop I use for travelling.

I wanna be "that guy" and say it first: OSX > Windows

Having gotten that out of my system, I'm actually considering installing Win7 on a spare HD and trying it out. My brother just bought a copy and my best friend also got one. I hear nothing but good things about Win7.

Same here! Made a switch about a month ago, and Chrome is so much quicker . . .

No need to, it's a Windows 7 thread, not a which OS is "better" thread! No need to start that mess of a thread . . .

+1

But, I've been running Win7 on a virtual machine, and I must admit that is a great departure from Vista and seems like a good Windows OS. But the verdict is still out, since people hailed Vista when it first arrived.

I didn't. It sucked on day one. I had it on my system for three days, went back to XP until today.

Ultimate Vista wasn't terrible at anything other than memory management. Windows 7 is VERY good at memory management. Just consider Vista to be ME and 7 to be XP and you'll get the picture.

I upgraded my home machine from Vista Ultimate 32bit to Win 7 Ultimate a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't stand Vista, but so far I am impressed with Windows 7. I haven't had any problems with the common apps I use, though I haven't really put Premiere Pro through it's paces since upgrading.

In addition to improving the stability of apps from Vista, they also cleaned up all the small UI items that bothered me in Vista.

My plan is to do a complete reinstall so I can move to the 64 bit version and add at least another 4GB of RAM.

Windows 7 is sooo much better than Vista. Windows Vista is another failure product from Microsoft like Windows ME

Anyone want to come to my Windows 7 launch party?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9oWWt_L-qeo

It's like any other party, but Windows 7 is the guest of honor!

+1. Microsoft hailed Vista, that was it.

Looks like Win7 will be at the top of my off-season shopping list.

Vista is horrid...

I'm going to be upgrading from 32 bit Vista + hard drive to 64 bit Win7 + SSD within the next several months. As soon as my wedding season is over, I'm taking the plunge.

To be perfectly honest, I've had no serious issues with Vista. Yeah, its a little more "heavy" than XP, but with computers as fast as they are today, I don't see it as a big issue. Aside from that, Vista has been stable as a rock for me and I've been happy. My primary reason for upgrading is that if I'm going 64 bit, I might as well get the latest operating system at the same time.

I went from XP Pro 32 -> Windows 7 Pro 64 and so far no major issues. I added more RAM (8gb total) and everything is noticably quicker.

The installer for CS4 will install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Photoshop on your machine as 32-bit plugins don't work with 64-bit PS.

JAMIE: if you're upgrading from XP32 -> Win7 64 here's what you need to do (the Win7 upgrade will not let you upgrade from 32-bit to 64-bit directly - it won't run if you stick the upgrade CD into the drive while booted to XP).

1) Boot off the Win7 64 Upgrade DVD
2) Install Win 7 per the DVD
3) Important: When prompted for the CD Key LEAVE IT BLANK and complete the install
4) After Win7 boots...run the upgrade install again. This time your CD Key will work as you are "upgrading" from a qualifying O/S (64-bit -> 64-bit)

Hope that helps.
