I was visiting Auschwitz several weeks ago and took some pictures with my Canon Ixus 980IS, left my 5DII at home.

you can't see them full screen, but you should see at least the pictures in 'normal' size about 800x600.
Just click on any thumbnail or arrow to go further

Are you all having problems? I tried using IE8, FF3.5 and Chrome and didnt have a problem...

Hans, thank you for posting these. I think you did a very good job with the 980is and the processing. I haven't been there since the 80's and 90's and your photos really brought me back.
I paused and almost didn't open your post because of the horror there. Your pictures again are very well done, and I would think anyone seeing them will catch a glimpse of the history there. That effect is amplified many times over for someone who has walked those halls and fields, and smelled the air.
Thank you again for sharing.

These are very striking and moving images. Just about gave me the same goosebumps I had when I visited the Dachau conentration camp

I really hesitated to follow your link. First, I generally dont do links, since there is so much here. But, more importantly, these are images I dont want to see. To your credit, you have effectively captured the darkness, the harshness, the barren, empty, barbed and miserable place Auschwitz was and still appears to be. I want to think of these images as of photographic and artistic interest. But the reality is so awful...

Very well done - they bring back the emptiness of visiting this absolutely evil place. The compositions and the conversions are powerfully executed. My only criticism are the two portrait shots. I think this place only works when it is shown devoid of all life, and photographs of the living don't work here.

I visited a few years ago. I'm glad I went, and I'll never go back.

Great pics. I was at Dachau a few months back. It was one of the first test concentration camps. It wasn't technically a death camp per se, but wow, you can totally tell the difference between that and Auschwitz.

I agree that the portraits are a bit strange in this collection.
Actually my intentions were to show you how I felt by post processing the photos (afa this is possible).

Not a happy subject but I think we shouldn't hide it either.
