When I saw the title, "Cathedral Rock", I wondered how that particular monolith could be made beautiful. Wow! Now I know.

Thanks all for the comments. The pano made for a large file which lost a little in the conversion to the web jpeg. Pretty morning it was.

Beautiful, but confusing. Where are the shadows on the trees that would coincide with the sun being at that angle? According to the shadows on the rock, the sun is actually somewhere left of frame I guess?

Thanks very much for your comment, but no, the sun was part of the original two frames that were stitched in PS photomerge, it wasn't added in. The shadows of the rock and of the trees are as they appeared that morning. I did replace the sky from another shot taken that morning as the original two frames were exposed for the shadows and the sky was completely blown. I also added a darker exposure of the bottom frame as a smart object using darken mode through a mask using lens align in the area of the tree on the left. A lot of the detail of the tree against the sky was lost because of the lighter exposure of the original frame.....does that make sense? This was taken with my new 17mm TS-E, which I think I'll keep , with about 1 degree of tilt and using the shift function for the pano. Nice lens, fun to play with. Anyway, thanks again.

I took it to be HDR because of the sun location, exposure of the sky and lack of shadows in the trees and rocks. So, yes, I also found it to be a little confusing. Beautiful shot nonetheless. Thanks for the explanation, dave

Wonderful...love the starburst...really makes it dynamic.

Oh...just read it is a composit. Thanks very much for the disclosure (honesty) on that.

Still an awesome picture....just no brownie points for being in the right place at the right time...lol.
