I'll try it tonight, on my Mac with Leopard (10.5) .. not the Snowy one, just the regular Leopard (Apple, please use some other names for your OS - Tiger is cool, the rest is lame - what's next - OS X Pussycat?).
yep,the newest upgrade still dosn't have a horizon straightner!! I was dependant on DPP for my workflow, but dont use it any more, it has the feature set of an injured amoeba.
Have you considered a hot shoe bubble level or a grid screen maybe ??
Loaded fine on Vista 64 Bit as it is 32/64 bit. Though importing catalogue is slow compared to version 2. Luminance noise is for some reason disabled ( maybe my settings I don't know)
When i export to CS4 extended, CS4 does not function as it aught to I could not use the tools and needed to reboot. Also CS4 for some reason does take longer to start up as a stand alone feature. I will probably remove this beta version and try again at another time.
Love DPP its basic yes, but that is it's great advantage. It gives a very accurate and fast workflow. All to their own.
The library UI is just as slow as before.
The import is slower than before, and in one instance only imported 1/10 of the images that I actually dropped on it.
I will still use it, because it's what I like best, but the LR library was always pathetic compared to Aperture's and this v3 doesn't seem to be any better.

It's the first beta, Stan, not the final product...
The new better noise reduction is not available ( luminance is grayed out) in most cases..
I wish adobe would put a photoshop type "levels" in lightroom

I'm an Aperture user, and I've gotta think that this beta LR release is going to cause the dwindling Aperture community to dwindle further. Come on, Apple! Show us what's up your sleeve! Aperture 3.0 has gotta be coming out soon, right? Full 64-bit, Snow Leopard/OpenCL/Grand Central Dispatch-optimized, localized editing, some sort of editing plug-in structure that does not necessitate creating a massive Tiff, etc. Please?
Luminance reduction is purposefully disabled because Adobe wants feedback on the new color noise reduction algorithms--it was mentioned in the Adobe videos on LR3.
I think it's got some nice enhancements over 2.5. I wish they would add lens distortion correction a la PTLens.

I totally understand. My point is that if you go out and tout how fast you made it, either make sure it's actually that much faster, or don't trumpet so loud. Also, I have been long enough in this industry to know that order of magnitude improvements, heck even significant improvements between a beta and the released product realistically aren't possible. You fix bugs, glitches, sneak in small features (like my all time favorite gradient in 2.0), but you don't have the engine suddenly running 3x as fast.
Compared to Aperture, the LR database was always a sad display, and even LR3 compared to Aperture 1 can't match its speed. I have imported 2000+ images into the LR3 catalog which is by no means much, and scrolling through the grid is ... well, very sad.
There are many reasons why I have always used LR, and why that's unlikely to change anytime soon, but that doesn't mean I'll be quiet when I see the worst aspects still not addressed. I for one don't equal patriotism to praise

If Canon adds the pitch/roll feature to future cameras (as with the 7D), and then they add that information to the EXIF data of their files... PS, LR and DPP should be given the ability to automatically straighten the photo.

It took them 2 years to catch up with the built-in level, so maybe in another 2 years they'll add it to the EXIF, and yet in another 2 years they'll support it in DPP

the import seems better
One thing I hope they do is improve the dual screen. allow all the menues to be put on a seperate would be a good start. As it is in LR2 (and the beta LR3) its just not much point having it most of the time.
Watched the preview videos put together by Kelby and co. Not sure what the big deal is about the import. Never had a problem with it before--seemed pretty straightforward to me. Were people really confused by it? I might grow to appreciate the new import dialog features, but the old one worked fine.
I agree about the dual/multiple screen support. LR2's support is pretty poor. They're too in love with their interface design to allow for floating, dockable panels that can be moved anywhere. If I have 3 monitors I should be able to have one show a grid of thumbnails, another hold all the catalog and adjustment panels, and the main one show a fullscreen image. Even if I could just decouple the fullscreen preview from the panels--move the panels to a side screen and have my main screen show a fullscreen image--that would be great, but that won't happen. LR UI is about form over function unfortunately. At this point my only hope is that they eventually offer more options for what goes where within the rigid display areas they've allowed for. Maybe in version 4 then.
Having said all that, I still enjoy using LR2 and have gotten proficient in switching between modules and views using keyboard shortcuts. Workflow isn't a problem, runs reasonably quickly on my old Core 2 Quad, and only very occasionally locks up with no resulting data loss. Just wish the UI were more flexible.
