Hey folks,

I have received some nice notes from Lurkers and Newbies.

While many tell me they learn things here, I also learn things from their short stories they share with me. Good things.

It is really good to know you (lurkers, visitors, newbies who don't comment yet) are watching and learning here.

I hope you all enjoy your time on this forum.

I hope more folks will post photos of the Halloween costumes (or zombies, or ghouls, or characters) they see. It is a great chance to put something up for fun.

Bravo, for you have undertaken quite the job, for which you are ultimately qualified.

Just an update here....

I have received several really nice notes from folks who are Lurkers.

I hope these tips help them have a better experience here on FM. That is my intent.

But, you old hands need to know that lots of people are intimidated and reluctant to post either photos or comments here. I think that is something this forum needs to work on.

From my POV, it is up to every one of the "old hands" and active participants to make them feel welcome to post here.

My Simple Suggestion: If or when a newbie or old lurker decides to post their first pics here on FM, cut them some slack. Welcome them. Say hi. Don't feel you have to cut their photos to pieces with a critique. Some people just want to join the group and have fun posting their photos too. It is a way of sharing each person's vision of their part of the world. I, for one, would like to see how they see the world. Whether it is their dogs, their kids, their Self-Portrait, or anything. That enriches my life and shows what photography means to THEM.

That is a nice portrait of the mother and child. I like it.

But, I would not like to see this thread get hijacked by image critiques or discussions.

You know as well as I do, that some image discussions turn into heated debates.

So, I think the image would be better in a separate topic/thread where people can then discuss it.

Well, I figured since you had a lot of newbies on line, via emails,

we could see if they wanted to take a stab at "figuring" out the lighting.

No worries on my end.

Newbies or older guys are welcome to take a ponder... After all. We are trying to learn here.. Right? Just an older forum member trying to help out the new guys on the block.
